Rep. Liz Cheney, under fire from former President Donald Trump and his staunchest defenders, is picking up support from some influential Republicans as her allies close ranks and resist the effort to oust her from the third-ranking spot in House GOP leadership.
On Monday, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell was the latest Republican to give her a boost, saying in a statement to CNN that she had "the courage" to act on her convictions in the aftermath of her vote to impeach Trump last month on a charge he incited the deadly insurrection that ransacked Capitol Hill on January 6.
"Liz Cheney is a leader with deep convictions and the courage to act on them," McConnell said. "She is an important leader in our party and in our nation. I am grateful for her service and look forward to continuing to work with her on the crucial issues facing our nation."

Protected from whom? More than half of the GOP House members want her removed. She can be voted out the same way she was voted in.

Cheney and McConnell are two losers. By now it should be perfectly clear they are poison to the Trump wing, the dominant wing, of the Republican Party.
And when that effort to primary those office holders fails...?
This is why we’re going to end up needing a third party. I understand the reluctance of so many people here on FR about supporting a third party because of the way it will split the vote, but with swamp creatures like these in charge of the Republican Party, not even Donald Trump can drag the party into a more MAGA-populist stance. I’m not happy about it, but it seems like third party Patriot Party may end up being forced upon us just because the GOP leadership refuses to go along with the program. Even if we primary these people and vote them out of office, they won’t let up their hold on the levers of power behind the scenes in the party.

Yeah, well we do, too, Turtle. And those convictions are to throw people like Cheney out of Congress and thwart your corrupt actions at every level.
It’s all a matter of degree. He may have canceled different people, but it was cancel culture all the saame. He may not have sent anyone to the gulag or the gas chambers, just ruined their careers. But it’s all the same. Crushing dissenting opinions one way or another.

Because Jordan is getting ready to try to roll McCarthy. Speculation is that Jim Jordan turned down a senate seat because he wants to be speaker. Mitch is not a fan of that.
