Even as a mere Florida man, former President Donald Trump sure looks as if he's trying to knife the Republican Party.
On Saturday morning, Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, the House's resident anti-Semitic QAnon conspiracy theorist, boasted that she had shared a call with the supportive former president. By evening, news emerged that Trump's legal team had resigned barely 48 hours before his first response to the article of impeachment is due and a little more than a week before the Senate trial begins. The reason: Trump wants to present the one defense that would render it political suicide to acquit him.
Trump could argue that despite inviting his fans to Washington, D.C., during a pandemic and telling them he would lead them to the Capitol to "stop the steal," his aside that they ought to do so "peacefully and patriotically" shows he was not trying to incite violence. As a matter of process, he could also argue that the trial itself is illegitimate because he is now out of office — a position that 45 out of 50 Republican senators agree on. Either of these arguments might be weak, but both are at least something.
But no. Instead, to defend himself from the charge that he incited an insurrection at the Capitol, Trump reportedly wants to claim the election really was stolen from him. As one may notice, this is not a defense against incitement but rather a justification for it.
The Republican Party has carefully avoided defending Trump on the merits of his actions — even Trump's most loyal supporters. Sen. Rand Paul did him a big favor by forcing a vote on the constitutionality of a post-presidential impeachment trial. That has essentially locked 45 senators into acquittal on constitutional grounds.

Good panel discussion regarding this on Bannon’s WarRoom this morning w/guest former Navy SEAL/Missouri Governor and Rhodes Scholar Eric Greitens. (Steve Bannon, Raheem Kassam and John Fredericks). Greitens was great on this subject!
Well worth a listen/view (about 13 minutes):

The Impeachment is ridiculous
Now that the Democrats control the Senate, and Leahy is illegally going to preside over the trial, what makes people think that he'll even allow a defense based on voter fraud to be brought forward? Nothing about either impeachment was legal, but they went forward anyway, and I could see Leahy claiming that he will not allow anything to do with voter fraud claims being a part of this impeachment trial. Democrats illegally change the rules all the time, and are allowed to get away with it.
Even if allowed, the MSM will cover it in a way that makes it’s clear and understandbale to the viewing public.
And even if it happens - so what?
Mid-term is 2 yearas away, general 4 years away.
The public has the attention span of a gnat.
That right there is how Hillary will become President. Joe retires, 95 days from now. I don't think anyone has the patience to wait longer. Harris becomes President, no objections are made. Harris appoints/nominates Hillary to be Vice President. As with all rules, they only apply when they are needed, but then they apply HARD. That is also how Hillary becomes president without having to wait for someone to die or become incapacitated.
This is why Biden was nominated. He couldn't get a crowd of 3 people. He still can't, except by ordering the National Guard. This is why Harris was chosen, ostensibly by Biden who declared ahead of time that he would choose a woman of color. Harris was the only woman of color running. Finally, Hillary came out before the election and said don't you concede, Joe, no matter what.
Trump is not the only guy who can play 4-D chess.
Absolute Legend: Trump Walks Away From Republican Party Without Even Looking Back At Explosion
Trump supporters and Democrats collectively cheered while the steely-eyed Trump strutted confidently without any indication that he cared about the scorching inferno behind him as it laid waste to all the “losers and second-rate cowards” caught up in the blast. Mitch McConnell tried his best to escape, but he was too slow due to being a turtle. The force of the blast tipped him over on his back and he lay there with his arms flailing helplessly.
Authorities arrived on the scene to try to extinguish the flames but Trump stayed their hands. “No,” he said, slowly removing his glasses and finally turning around to gaze upon the torched ruins of the Republican Party. “No... let it burn.”
I thought so too.
We are in a Post-Electoral Nation.
While I agree the President has the Constitutional defense that it is illegal to impeach a former President, there must be a context to that defense. The context is the so-called Insurrection on January 6th. If Trump does not offer evidence as to why he supported the protests, then the Left will argue he implicitly accepts responsibility for the storming of the Capitol and, if acquitted, that he relied on a technicality (after all, to the Democrats the words of the Constitution are nothing more than technical language to be ignored when necessary for the greater good). So, it seems the President must present the reasons for the protests, must present the evidence of the fraud, and then connect it to the unbridled hatred of him by the Democrats that has gone so far as to once again ignore the Constitution in a effort to destroy him and prevent him from running again.
If you read the actual Article of Impeachment, you will see that pages 3-4 of the four page document refer to Trump’s
Great point. It is totally outrageous that yet again President Trump gets no support from the GOP. Here they are trying to deny him a legitimate defense in another impeachment hoax because it may harm them politically due to their previous support of the stolen election.
There can no longer be any doubt that the GOP is a malignant force in American politics. It needs to die a quick death so that a genuine MAGA party can rise from its ashes.
National Review is full of Never Trumpers.
Speaking of anti-semetic, anyone notice there was no real mention of the Dem Jewish vote this time around? They are usually a pretty important vote for them. Guess they don’t really need them any more....

+++++
Well YES but NO.
Surely you remember 2010 and the Tea Party movement. I anticipate a repeat of 2010 in 2020. My reasoning:
1. Dislike for Obama policy making drove our 2010 capture of the House.
2. Biden is Obama on steroids policy wise and on an Obama Charm scale from 1 to 10 Biden might just squeak through with a 1 or a 2.
3. Trump will be pitching The Steal for the next 2 years. We already have 50% of the voters. Trump needs to snag us another 10%..
I’m hope he goes in there himself with no lawyers and makes a simple statement.
-The US senate has zero authority to impeach, prosecute or put on trial a private citizen. The senates actions are unconstitutional and is in fact a crime.
- The election was stolen and the evidence is irrefutable.
- Joe Biden is an imposter and is illegitimate.
- I am running for legitimate President of the United States in 2024 and my campaign begins today!
Right or wrong, no assertion of fraud has withstood judicial review.
If Trump goes in with a bunch of “unsubstantiated” claims of fraud, it’ll be an embarrassment for him. And the party.
And it has little to do with the charge of “incitement”.
I hope you’re right.
She can’t refute the Election fraud claims. The GOP will die without Trump and his supporters.
Try again stupid and be more creative the next time.
The world would have condemned any other country’s election had video evidence of the State Farm Arena been shown anywhere else than in a strong democratic stronghold county.....
