Josh Mandel: Keep Ohio Red by Maintaining ‘Trump Coalition’
Breitbart ^ | Jan 30, 2021 | Sean Moran

Posted on 01/31/2021 6:28:06 AM PST by Chad C. Mulligan

Josh Mandel, the former Ohio treasurer, told Breitbart News Saturday that the key to keeping Ohio red ahead of the 2022 Senate elections is to maintain the working-class “Trump coalition.”

Mandel spoke to Breitbart News Saturday host Matthew Boyle as Sen. Rob Portman (R-OH) announced that he would retire at the end of his term.

Boyle noted that the Ohio Senate seat remains a critical part of Republicans’ mission to retake the Senate majority. With a 50-50 split in Congress’s upper chamber, Republicans only need to retake a net one seat to regain the Senate majority. This means that they cannot afford to lose seats such as Portman’s.

Mandel, a self-described “Trump warrior,” said that Republicans need to maintain the “Trump coalition of working-class Americans to win the seat.” Boyle noted that President Trump won Ohio during the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections.

Mandel could be a potential Republican contender for the Ohio Senate seat in 2022. He said that he has yet to decide if he will run for the Senate.

Mandel explained, “I think the key is keeping the Trump coalition together. I feel very strongly that the Trump coalition is made up of working people, not country club Republicans, and I think the whole country club Republican set, the establishment Republicans, the Harvard elite, they look down on the people of Ohio. As you said, they got it wrong twice.”

Josh Mandel ran in the 2016 primary against RINO Portman, and IMHO would have won, but then pulled out giving a weak explanation with just a month or two to go. Have never stopped wondering about that.

He's absolutely right that that Trump coalition is Ohio's working people. Notably the coal miners in the southeast of the state, who used to be Democrats until the Obama/Clinton War on Coal. Farmers are another key demographic. Not obvious to urbanites, but the largest industry in Ohio is farming. And farmers are hurting.

The Kasich/Boehner/RINO wing of the Ohio R party is fading fast. The future is principled guys like Mandel, who among other things fought hard to clean up Ohio voter rolls when he was Secretary of State. Won a landmark SCOTUS case against the Obama/Holder gang, in fact.

Trump conservatives can own the state for years to come if we follow Mandel's advice.

Mandel was sabotaged by the RNC the same way they sabotaged Barletta in PA. The RNC doesn't want the labor vote despite the Democrats doing everything they can to push them out.

We don't need two parties for Wall Street, and the GOP has to learn they've been cast aside for the Democrats.

When does the coronavirus tyrant Governor Mike DeWine Republican get shown the door in Ohio?

DeWine drags the party down with his Gavin Newsomish approach shutting down the state etc. etc. etc.

The first thing to do is eliminate all leftist election-fraud practices.

Mandel-Jonny come lately. Dropped out before because of wife’s ‘health issues’. Divorced. I don’t get it. Was she really sick? The left or primary opponent will plant that question.

Mandel never ran against Portman nor for the Senate at all in 2016.

The 2018 Senate race. Barletta was a huge immigration hawk and could have had a lot of appeal to Trump voters for his Trumpian platform, and he got practically no support from the RNC. Bob Casey coasted to victory despite being an empty suit because Barletta’s campaign had no money and nobody knew who he even was.

Which Mandel worked very hard at while he was Secretary of State.

Most likely she was causing problems at home so I get why he dropped out.

You are correct. Mea culpa. He was running for the R slot in 2018 to try to unseat *spit* Brown *spit*. It sis true that he suddenly dropped out giving us a very weak explanation.
