CNN ^ | 1/31/21 | Gloria Borger

(CNN) Former President Donald Trump's five impeachment defense attorneys have left a little more than a week before his trial is set to begin, according to people familiar with the case, amid a disagreement over his legal strategy.

It was a dramatic development in the second impeachment trial for Trump, who has struggled to find lawyers willing to take his case. And now, with legal briefs due next week and a trial set to begin only days later, Trump is clinging to his election fraud charade and suddenly finds himself without legal representation.

“ He needs to go for the jugular”

How, exactly, is bringing irrelevant allegations into the defense strategy in this matter “going for the jugular”?

It’s more like jumping off a cliff.

We wouldnt even be having this B.S impeachement if the FBI was not engaging in criminal sedition.

It is blatantly obvious that the "storming" of the White house was staged by FBI sanctioned actors), with the help of some Trump zealots mixed in

in fact, just looking at Ashli Babbit's credentials, she was probably caught by surprise when they shot her while doing what they hired her for for, dead FBI actors tell no tales, (just ask Paddock)

“... Rudy did a great job last time.”

Apparently you haven’t read the letter from Patrick Byrne on how Rudy is the reason Trump LOST proving his case about the steal.

Rudy, is a total DRUNK! Incompetent old fool in it for the MONEY!

Rudy says he can’t defend Trump because he was involved.

THANK GOD!

Trump can’t find a lawyer? LOL! C’mon Mam.

“Trump needs to stay clear of this.”

Agreed. I think the best of Trump, but historically he has had a problem staying clear of this type thing. Maybe he’s learning, still.

"The lawyer says I have a better chance of a verdict if I argue XYZ. The client says I don’t care..put me on the stand. He blows it up."

Yeah because that's what happened in the first Banana Trial lol...

“Trump apparently wanted his legal team to focus on election fraud, and they wanted to focus instead on legality of trying a FORMER President.”

The charges against him ... aren’t they that he lied about election fraud at his speech, which in turn enraged the evil masses? The charges against him must be addressed. To throw in a total non-issue would be misconduct by the lawyers. I think this firm was recommended by Lindsey Graham.

Sounds like another setup by a RINO to sabotage PDJT. Bannon’s going to have a lot to say about this.

I don’t know about Jay Sekulow, but Jordan Sekulow turned on him right when this mess started after Jan. 6.

There’s also the question of who has actually been paying for the lawyers. I don’t think Trump is paying them out of his own pocket.

LArticle I, Section 3, Clause 7 covers:

1. removal from office (if still in office)
2. bar from holding future office (whether they’re being removed from office or have already left it)

In the event that an impeached individual is found guilty, (2) applies.

I think there is already more than one precedent of an impeached individual resigning or bring expelled before the impeachment.

Blount
Judge Mark H. Delahay
William W. Belknap

The defense in the Belknap case was:

“... The judgment which the Constitution requires you to pronounce is a judgment of removal and disqualification—not removal or disqualification.”

Convention rather than precedent suggests that Trump shouldn’t be impeached after leaving office.

But between the Belknap case and the Former President’s Act, the judgement of removal could be to rescind the privileged status of an ex-POTUS, and then disqualification could be to prevent a convicted person running for high office.

Since that is consistent with the letter of the law, it follows that “you can’t impeach someone who’s already left the position” ignores precedent and ignores the status conferred on ex presidents.

I say that because I don’t think that Trump is interested in running again.”

I think you are right. He’s figured if he cannot beat the cheating as President no way in hell can he beat it as a challenger. I’ll bet he thinks this is the last chance to expose the massive cheating that occurred. These lawyers want no part of that so they abandoned their client.

I know a week ago Bannon said election fraud should be brought up in the trial. Wonder if this is why he is determine to do it! There has to be a reason behind it that we don’t know.

Corey Lewandowski mentioned that President Trump still has hundreds of millions of dollars in his campaign coffers, ready to use in 2022 if he chooses to do so.

This scares the crap out of the both the GOPe and the democrats.

“2. bar from holding future office (whether they’re being removed from office or have already left it)”

Nope. There is nothing in the constitution about that. Nothing. You made that part up.

How do you force the issue?

You bring it up again, and again, and again. Keep talking about it, and if the attempt to shut it down, keep going.

The democRATS and or the Senate is entitled to zero deference, nothing. Simply don’t play by their rules. THey have rigged it to suit themselves, and if Trump conedes a millimeter they will have won. There aren’t the votes to convict (yet), and there is no downside.

The mediots and the democRATS will huff and puff, but never forget Schitt for brains and others, who have things entered into the congressional record about the Russia “Collusion” scam.

Trump needs to go full scorched earth on the election rigging.

The table for the defense at this circus should be empty. If, by some strange occurrence he is convicted, he then should proceed through the courts and argue its Constitutionality.

Agree 100%.

Policy: Trump could have directed the treasury to tax remittances back in 2017. This is how Mexico would have paid for the wall. It was within his power by law. He never did. It was a bad instinct to listen to those who told him not to do it.
