Trump's impeachment defense team leaves less than two weeks before trial

(CNN) Former President Donald Trump's five impeachment defense attorneys have left a little more than a week before his trial is set to begin, according to people familiar with the case, amid a disagreement over his legal strategy.

It was a dramatic development in the second impeachment trial for Trump, who has struggled to find lawyers willing to take his case. And now, with legal briefs due next week and a trial set to begin only days later, Trump is clinging to his election fraud charade and suddenly finds himself without legal representation.

Looks like a major disagreement on strategy - Trump apparently wanted his legal team to focus on election fraud, and they wanted to focus instead on legality of trying a FORMER President.

Either way..not good this close to the charade..er..trial.

Sorry. CNN is hardly a credible news source.

First he has five attorneys, then no legal counsel. His five attorneys that he doesn’t have have left less than two weeks before trial, and the trial date is set by the Senate. CNN=Crap Nonsense Non-sequitur.

Get a couple of first year law students.

He doesn’t need any more firepower than that for this utter foolishness.

America is far more interested in their MIA $1400 checks than impeaching a private citizen.

He shouldn’t send any representatives at all. Say it is an invalid process in which he will not participate. That’s going to be the eventual basis for the not guilty verdict anyway,so why not discredit the “trial” from the start?

Aww. Poor Trump is all alone. What a load of road apples. I wouldn’t read/watch the Communist News Network if you paid me.

Typical CNN “reporting”. Some unnamed guy talks to some other unnamed guy who is then used a source for a CNN story.

I actually think CNN should base their stories on the results from a Magic 8-Ball instead. It would save everyone involved a lot of trouble.

So, you seem to doubt that his legal team has, indeed, left?

If you already know that nearly half the jurors will not vote to convict you, then it’s not a trial anymore. It’s a political spectacle.

LOL! What attorneys would NOT want to be involved with a show trial of a former president?

He got closer to 80 million votes than biden did. We all know that. I am sure some of those voters are lawyers that would be happy to help him...

One wonders WHY they left. Disagreement on strategy, or were they threatened by the ABA, and the various states with loss of their license(s).

I think Trump is right...go all in on election fraud. Forget about winning the thing on constitutional grounds, get all of the fraud info out, and on the congressional record. Let the chips fall where they may on the constitutional grounds, because he can then head to a “real” court rather than a kangaroo court and fight the “constitutional issues” there.

I say that because I don’t think that Trump is interested in running again.
