On the morning of Jan. 20, every room of the two-story Stroppel Hotel in Midland, SD, was filled with men and women who work on the Keystone XL pipeline. Most of these union laborers, welders and pipefitters started their day over a cup of coffee in the hotel’s common room before heading out to their jobs.
By 4 p.m., the entire place was cleared out, leaving the historic hotel silent for the first time since owners Laurie and Wally Cox took it over six months ago.
“Our whole world turned upside down with the stroke of a pen,” Laurie said.
She is speaking of President Biden’s executive order, signed on his first day in office, that halted work on the Keystone XL pipeline in South Dakota and immediately eliminated 1,000 union jobs. TC Energy, the company that was developing the project, predicts that more than 10,000 jobs will be lost in 2021 due to the order.
Now Laurie, who holds a master’s degree in social work, sits alone in the vacant hotel while her husband Wally finds work as a millwright hours away. She starts to cry as she recalls how they bought the building in late September and quickly turned it into an affordable and social place for pipeline workers to stay.
“We structured our prices to suit the per diems of each trade,” she said. “We created a common room because there is a real sense of community within these workers, and we thrived since the day we opened our doors.”
Since Jan. 20, “the entire town became an instant ghost down.”
The XL pipeline wasn’t the only project stopped by Biden’s pen. On Wednesday, he issued an executive order halting oil and gas leasing and drilling permits on federal lands and waters.

I know the majority voted for Trump. That said maybe 65 million voted Biden and what the Sam hill were they thinking. And then our state governors and legislatures collapsing like tin. Useless judges. Shame on all of them.
I wonder if they could build it anyway, bypass feds, using interstate treaties or inter-native american treaties. Wish I knew more about how to get around it, these people should not be hurt like that.
You have to get the “new sources” in operation BEFORE you shut down the existing suppliers.
Libs/progs dont see people as individuals, just as group members.

Instead of encouraging them to get professional coding jobs, the Dems on an interview summary I heard said the New Green Deal climate change jobs will need people to be employed. Someday. Somewhere. Really soon, maybe.
Hoping the Chinese weren’t listening (who could do solar panels and all that stuff and they won’t need well paid Americans at the jobs).

As usual with democrats, they paint their opponent as greedy, uncaring, destructive, vindictive, catering to big donors and special interest groups, etc. But it perfectly describes democrats.

There was a post on reddit claiming this is fake news.
The reasoning is that jobs like this are temporary anyway and moving from one pipeline job to another one is common as construction ends on one pipeline and starts on the next. The claim is that the workers will just move on to the next pipeline, so no big deal.
So, basically they don’t care at all about lost jobs. It’s just spin.
It’s time for true believers to repent and seek God’s Divine Intervention. God is in charge of everything. . .including everyone’s next breath. We need a Holy Spirit-led revival before the end time days of the Lord.
The USA was leading the world in reducing emissions—even before covid and without “Paris”!!!!
The climate fanatics’ “solutions” to “global warming” do not work, and use materials mainly found in communist China!!!! Honest researchers need to go back to the drawing board, and our government needs to fund their work, not climate fanaticism and the U.N.!!!!
It is sheer tyranny to put pipeline workers and those who serve them out of work, and make us all suffer for lack of power and transportation!!!!
