I *think* they believe gun owners will just obey. This scheme would fail even in that event. However, there are enough gun owners who wouldn’t. In that case consider the outcome. Any reasonable person must conclude all bets are off and it’s kill or be killed. There will be no fair court hearing or support from society or sense from legislatures. You’re on your own to deal with the issue with little or nothing to lose. As a country do we really want to go there? Even among most liberals I think the answer is no.
