Lawmakers push Biden to offer recurring $2,000 stimulus checks

As Congress debates President Joe Biden's request for $1.9 trillion in coronavirus relief funding — including a third stimulus check pegged at $1,400 — some Democratic lawmakers are pushing for an even bigger response: $2,000 monthly payments until the pandemic is history.

Rep. Ilhan Omar, a Democrat from Minnesota, and more than 50 other House members are urging the Biden administration to back such a policy.

Signers of the January 28 letter also include other leading House progressives such as Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York and Rashida Tlaib of Michigan.

A recurring stimulus check is a familiar proposal for Harris, who last year introduced a bill in the Senate that would have provided $2,000 a month for each adult and child in the U.S. until the pandemic ended, although the effort failed to gain traction.

The recurring payments should be directed to "those who need it most and will spend it the quickest," as well as include "all immigrant workers, refugees, and their families," Omar wrote.

Ongoing payments would provide stability to families struggling in the crisis, Omar wrote. "Recurring direct payments until the economy recovers will help ensure that people can meet their basic needs, provide racially equitable solutions and shorten the length of the recession," she said.

I think if they go to $3,000 a month tax free for every living American we could strike a deal. Throw in Free college and housing and we have reached utopia, for the one month we could afford it.

“$2,000 monthly payments until the pandemic is history.”

Insanity. The government is a witch standing in front of a gingerbread house and we’re Hansel and Gretel.

So those XL pipeline workers could be saved after all? I hear all the cries and exclamations of “Our children and grand children will be saddled with all this debt...” Anyone believe the debt will actually ever be paid? I certainly don’t. Probably hunter’s pals will just buy it up.

I’ll just write the checks out. I’ve got more money in my account than the Government does right now.

Only have 9 years left before we’re all dead from climate change and it will take a longer time before I hit a 30 trillion dollar debt.

And I have overdraft protection!!

What happened to all the debt of the USSR?

Anyone know?

Actually Russia assumed the debt and leveraged it into more borrowing by promising to pay on the old debt...........but they never did.

Proof Libs are stupid enough to invert cause and effect.

Wealth is actual goods and services which can be expressed in a fiat currency to facilitate trade.

Libs think cranking out a fiat currency will create wealth. it won’t. It will distort the economy thru inflation or inflating the stock market.

If they are truly lawmakers then they should go ahead and make a law.

What do they care what Biden/Harris does?

ODE TO THE WELFARE STATE (1949)

Father, must I go to work?
No, my lucky son.
We’re living now on Easy Street
On dough from Washington!

We’ve left it up to Uncle Sam,
So don’t get exercised.
Nobody has to build a dam,
We’ve all been subsidized.

But if Sam treats us all so well
And feeds us milk and honey,
Please, Daddy, tell me what the heck
He’s going to use for money?

Don’t worry bub, there’s not a hitch
In this here noble plan.
He simply soaks the filthy rich
And helps the common man.

But father, won’t there come a time
When they all run out of cash?
And we have left them not a dime
When things will go to smash?

My faith in you is shrinking, son,
You nosey little brat!
You do too darn much thinking,
To be called a Democrat!

Robert Edgar Burns
