I remember even the hippies admired that song. They said because it has spirit.

Check out my profile page. There’s sure to be something there you’ll like. :)

I read your page. My cousin is one of those socialists you’re trying to flip. Lives in Viroqua. We dare not have a political discussion because it can get really ugly really fast. Now that Biden has set Wisconsin back financially with one signature on one EO (no drilling on federal land), maybe he’ll have an epiphany and turn away from his leftist tendencies.

A very pleasant good Friday morning to everyone here at the Canteen and to all our military at home and abroad. Thanks for your service to our country and thanks Fatima for this morning's thread.

Two song come to mind in this category:

Breakup to Makeup, my favorite version is the one by Johnny Mathis. This was a 70's hit by the stylistics.

And then there's Maysa's song about breaking up after finding out it was getting easier all the time to fight with her lover. "The Radio Played Our Song".

This song was dedicated to me once. I broke up with Andy because Larry P. “became available.” He was a year older and really cute. But, he just wasn’t that into a 9th grader. Broke my heart. Andy got his revenge. (sigh) I deserved it. Too bad, too. Andy was super cute, and a stone cold fox at our 20th reunion.

I ended up marrying a classmate in 67 named (wait for it) ... Larry J. Lost him at 23 to cancer. He was the best Larry ever.

Be still my heart. Seems like this was on the jukebox at Garner State Park (Texas) in the early 60s. It reminded me of another major Garner hit...

And thank you for the added info on Jivin Jean. I grew up in So Cal and my music history stems from listening to the 'Johnny Otis Show' Sunday nights. Not sure if you know the name, but his first hit was 'Haarlem Nocturn' and his biggest was 'Willie and the Hand Jive'. Otis was white but lived in the black world. His show featured mostly blues and early rock. I assumed Jivin Jean was black when I first became familiar with the song (this was late '60's).

Was not familiar with the gulf coast swamp music that you mention in your post. Good info!

I always thought Jivin Jean's song was far far better than Neil Sedaka's song.

Small correction on the title: Don't it make my Brown Eyes Blue -- Crystal Gayle

I have mentioned this before, but it is worth noting: the song is a beautiful song and coming from a woman like Crystal Gayle the song just evokes love being lost. And that is what it actually about. Richard Leigh, the writer, wrote the song as a tribute to his long time best friend: His dog. It seems the dog, as it was aging, was going blind from cataracts, which were turning his brown eyes blue.

“Hats Off to Larry” is the only Larry song that I know of, and it’s a backhanded tribute. Incidentally, that’s now an old-fashioned name. I had a number of classmates named Larry, Kenneth and Linda, but babies haven’t been given those names for decades.
