Brazil's handling of the coronavirus pandemic has been ranked the world's worst, while New Zealand topped the class, according to research published by a leading Australian think tank on Thursday.
Sydney's Lowy Institute assessed almost 100 countries on six criteria, including confirmed cases, Covid-19 deaths and testing metrics.
"Collectively, these indicators point to how well or poorly countries have managed the pandemic," according to the report by the independent body.
Aside from New Zealand – which has largely kept the virus at bay with border closures and "go early, go hard" lockdowns and testing regimes – Vietnam, Taiwan, Thailand, Cyprus, Rwanda, Iceland, Australia, Latvia and Sri Lanka made the top 10 for their responses.
In bottom place was Brazil, closely followed by Mexico, Colombia, Iran and the United States.
Brazil has recorded more than 218,000 coronavirus deaths – a toll second only to that of the United States.
For much of the last year, the two most populous nations in the Americas have been led by nationalist leaders who have actively downplayed the threat of Covid-19, ridiculed mask-wearing, opposed lockdowns and contracted the virus themselves.
China – where the first cases were identified in December 2019 – was not included in the rankings because of what the think tank described as a lack of publicly available data on testing.

Article = French BS!
Figures never Lie, but Liars Figure.
Because those other countries don’t have rights. It’s easy to do the so-called best thing when people don’t have rights.
Island nations are easy to protect. Just cutoff travel, which is what they did.
This is just another hit-piece against conservative leaders in the US and Brazil. They are doing this against Hungary and any nation that does not get on board the socialist train.
Lowy Institute? (Globalist purkes)

Like I said, Figure never Lie, but Liars Figure.
Strictly word of mouth, unconfirmed rumor that Taiwan only had four.
More like “Lowly Institiute”
If Buy Dung had been president in 2020, and did everything exactly as Trump did, the US would be rated at or near the top.
Surely the way Governor Kodos of NY handled things figures greatly in why the United States ranks so low in this listing?
Agreed. Had Trump and even the clown we have running things up here done things like immediately place a travel ban on China and Iran (which is what Jacinda did), they both would have been crucified as raaaaccciiists.
Yep, Obvious Globalist Propaganda.
Is it over?
> Study ranks New Zealand Covid-19 response best, Brazil worst, US in bottom five
Population density per square mile:
18 - New Zealand
34 - US
65 - Brazil
When Everything is open in late April and New Zealand is still cowering in the dark from the Covid boogeyman, remember this take.
Just saw the other day that Britain has reached 200,000 Wuhan Flu deaths. Britain has a population of about 60 million which is about one-fifth of our population. So on a per capita basis their death rate is *much* worse than ours.
🐿 I bet the US also has a high rate of international travel too.
And a study from decades ago found that bilge water from ships imports most viruses. Don’t know if the evolution (seafaring procedure) has changed, but (back during the study) bilge water from polluted harbors would offset the cargo during unloading.
IMO they should flush out the polluted water in the open ocean (such as 5% at a time while traveling) but that is an inconvenience.
Moisture and fecal matter and trash in a dark container seems like a handy covid incubator.
The NZ PM placed that ban 2 days after President Trump did...
I was surprised that he liberal PM would do the same as our president...
She ran on her ‘success’ and got reelected...
right now newly arriving visitors are quarantined under guard for 14-30 days...
Australia especially the province of Victoria treated people worse...they locked up visitors in a hotel for several months...
Im waiting to see what happens when NZ is finally opened up again...
Perfect case in point ...
I have never taken a COVID test, and will refuse to take one unless I have symptoms. This means I will refuse even if it means I can’t fly or enter a government building.
I have been openly defying every stupid government edict related to COVID that has come out since last March. “Defying” is probably even too strong a word. I don’t even know what most of these restrictions are, because I only see them when they’re posted on the door of a business establishment or on a highway message sign when I’m out traveling.
I also have no intention of getting a COVID vaccine.
People like me drive the U.S. DOWN in the metrics used for the ranking in this report ... and yet we don’t show up anywhere as actual COVID cases.
Its worse than that in Victoria. Everyone was locked up in their homes for a couple of months. House arrest.
