A Florida man was arrested this morning on charges of conspiring with others in advance of the 2016 U.S. Presidential Election to use various social media platforms to disseminate misinformation designed to deprive individuals of their constitutional right to vote.
Douglass Mackey, aka Ricky Vaughn, 31, of West Palm Beach, was charged by criminal complaint in the Eastern District of New York. He was taken into custody this morning in West Palm Beach and made his initial appearance before U.S. Magistrate Judge Bruce E. Reinhart of the Southern District of Florida.
“According to the allegations in the complaint, the defendant exploited a social media platform to infringe one the of most basic and sacred rights guaranteed by the Constitution: the right to vote,” said Nicholas L. McQuaid, Acting Assistant Attorney General of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division. “This complaint underscores the department’s commitment to investigating and prosecuting those who would undermine citizens’ voting rights.”
“There is no place in public discourse for lies and misinformation to defraud citizens of their right to vote,” said Seth D. DuCharme, Acting U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York. “With Mackey’s arrest, we serve notice that those who would subvert the democratic process in this manner cannot rely on the cloak of Internet anonymity to evade responsibility for their crimes. They will be investigated, caught and prosecuted to the full extent of the law.”

So THIS gets prosecuted, but hundreds of sworn affidavits and hard evidence of voter fraud and outright unconstitutional election illegalities just gets universally ignored?!
I’m so fed up with this illegitimate criminal federal government. There is no equal protection, no honest rule of law. Our “justice” system is a pure political weapon that exists only to serve these leftist tyrants.
This has to stop. This isn’t America.
Is the intent to mislead real voters or satire? Unless they have a better reason than that, FBI should discipline the agent making the arrest.
Does not matter if you did something or not. They actually prefer if you didn't.
The goal is scare the rest of people who might think about stepping out of line by doing something perfectly legal but of which our betters disapprove.
This guy sent out an email telling people to vote online. He even provided directions. This is more then just saying don’t vote. Around 160,000 voted this way which obviously were not counted. It could have changed the outcome of the election. Still think he’s a great guy?
The meme was a joke and the FBI is rotten to the core.
They’re not going to discipline anybody they’re going to ramp this up to astronomical levels. Conservatives are on the slate to be re-educated or eliminated.
That is your opinion. Was it satire or intended to mislead? Where do you get the story that 160,000 voted this way?
The most important thing to keep in mind is that
You may bank account, a house or even a 401k. The federal prosecutor has a printing press for cash with reams of paper and barrels of ink.
The Feds know exactly what you and your family are worth and so do your defense team.
The prosecute until your cash runs out and then they send you to a cage with zero net worth. And that might be better than being on the streets with no net worth.
Why no mention in this entire thread about the democrat activist that posted the same kind of tweet in 2016.
Now it’s mentioned. DOJ not allowed to charge dems?
Well you can no longer trust justice. It is just a tool for the political elite.
>> the defendant exploited a social media platform
By those standards, a number of social media execs should be prosecuted to an infinitely greater extent.
Those who followed his advice were stupid. Too stupid to be permitted to vote. I’d rather idiots stay home and not influence the vote.
You defending this UTTER GARBAGE prosecution is beyond the pale. PATHETIC!
P Diddy told everybody to “Vote or Die” in 2004.
But it’s all good. /s

Whomever this person is, he certainly appears to be the twin brother of Charlie Sheen in that old Baseball movie . . . what was that, he went to the pitcher’s mound to the tune of “Wild Thing”. . .
His voter deceptions probably created five to ten minutes of extra work for the Democrat fraud-vote producers, they may join the lawsuit and sue for compensation, that sort of work pays fairly well I would imagine. /s
This is covered in free speech. I don’t even know if such a law even exists.
Obama told illegal aliens to illegally vote, and he did so as president.
