Democrats’ hopes to convict Trump in Senate fade, as some seek pivot to censure

Members of the U.S. Senate are now reportedly talking about a censure resolution against former President Trump after a vote earlier in the day indicated that there wasn't enough support to convict him in a trial following his impeachment earlier this month by the House.

The vote in the Senate was over the question of whether it was constitutional to hold a trial for a president who had been impeached but had already left office. Only five Republican senators, along with all 50 Democratic senators, voted that it was constitutional, while 45 Republican senators voted that it wasn't.

Axios reported on Tuesday that Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) and Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) had been talking about a possible censure resolution with each other, and with other Senate colleagues as well.

"I think it's pretty obvious from the vote today," said Collins, "that it is extraordinarily unlikely that the President will be convicted. Just do the math." she said.

The Hill reported that "Kaine is also among a group of Democrats floating trying to bar Trump from future office through the 14th Amendment. That, like a censure resolution, could pass the Senate with only 60 votes compared with impeachment's two-thirds requirement. That means that if every Democrat voted for a censure resolution, they would need the support of at least 10 Senate Republicans."

There should be no censure unless it includes Biden Harris and Pelosi.

Since when does the Senate censure private citizens?

No. The Communist Party opened this unconstitutional process. I want our President to take weeks if not months going through every single piece of election fraud evidence. Call every single witness - thousands of depositions. Bury the Senate and burn their time, get the election fraud data on the record, finally.

However, the Communist party will never allow our President to mount a defense. It is a Star Chamber afterall.

The Senate might just as well pass a bill that Trump can’t run for office. Of course that is illegal, but so what; the attempt to impeach and convict after leaving office is illegal too.

And Obama needs to be censured along with Waters and the rest who were THE FIRST to agitate the masses with the “get in their faces!” DEMANDS. CENSURE THEM ALSO!

Since when does the Senate decide what is and isn’t Constitutional?

They are all on record in their own words promoting and approving violence against President Trump and his supporters.

We will never forget.

Have they condemned any of it?

Nope.

Have they called in the NG for riots ongoing even now in Portland and Seattle?

Watch the video of Dementia Joe, The HO, Nancy Pelosi, and every single Dem leader and some fake news media anchors calling for even more violence from the BLM/ANTIFA terrorists during the riots.

During the Clinton impeachment this was suggested but was shot down as a Bill of Attainder. That would especially apply to private citizens. Should this be done congress could censure anyone they didn’t like.

Since when does the Senate decide what’s Constitutional. It’s a matter for the USSC.

That article from Just the News is wrong. Section 3 of the 14th amendment says 2/3s vote from both houses is required to bar someone from running for a federal office, not 60%.

Even the censure is pretty meaningless, as no “High Crime or Misdemeanor” is addressed in the lone Article of Impeachment, which is based on unfounded hearsay and innuendo.

Despite appearances and accusations, no crime took place on the part of Donald J. Trump. And that is all this is, an accusation without basis in fact.

Censure's NOT going to work either...these two 'scolds' need to give it up - move on... get a life. Whatever.

If you think about it, this kabuki fantasy is the only thing Nancy can do to Donald Trump.

It is SO lacking in teeth.

She wishes she had the opportunity to use a military tribunal against him, but that ain't happening.

I am enjoying the show.

That will be like a hyena letting out a fart in the forest. Nobody will even notice it.
No power on earth is going to stop President Trump from running in 2024 if he wants to run.
The Dems don't control the state legislatures in the swing states. We do.
