Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-VT), who is presiding over former President Donald Trump’s Senate impeachment trial, returned home on Tuesday night after an unexpected trip to the hospital earlier in the day, a spokesman said.
“After getting test results back, and after a thorough examination, Senator Leahy now is home. He looks forward to getting back to work. Patrick and Marcelle deeply appreciate the well wishes they have received tonight,” spokesman David Carle said in a statement.
The update on Leahy’s condition comes after an earlier report that the Vermont lawmaker had been admitted to the hospital just hours after presiding over the opening of Trump’s Senate impeachment trial. ...

Where in the Constitution does it say anyone but the Chief Justice can preside at an impeachment trial? Inquiring mind wants to know.

The Constitution indicates that when a presidential impeachment trial happens, the Chief Justice shall preside.
So this brings up a lot of questions as to whether this Senate exercise is really an impeachment trial, with out the chief justice.
And what sort of legal proceeding has one of the jurors being the judge as well?
Someone should place a call to Hospice of Vermont.

Found one site that says he is “rcovering” at home which I interpret as him having some recognizable episode. This site also said that if he doesn’t get back in time for the trial, the Dems (majority party) will appoint someone else. Now I’m speculating...if they have to vote on that, they’re one vote short and that gives the Republicans the majority.
Based on the description of this Trump lawyer hired....Leahy is not going to get that much respect. He’ll be continually addressed as Senator and often reminded that he’s already voted in the first impeachment...so he can’t be impartial. Pretty much a comedy from that point on. If Leahy collapsed on the second day...wouldn’t be much of a shock.
Why does he get to vote and act like judge? That seems totally off the rocker. The founders had no clue on what could happen when they wrote rules in the constitution.
He certainly shouldn’t have a vote...but the Dems say he does.
Too bad....probably another deal made with Satan for eternal life like Pelosi....

Patrick Leahy is NOT OK. He has been in fragile health for some time now, and exertion of any kind is apt to land him back in the hospital.
Particularly if that is exertion of judgment.
Old men should retire and go home when they have trouble mounting stairs.
I remember the Amy Comey Barrett confirmation hearing. His virtual interview was ridiculous. He could barely talk and confused, could not form a coherent question, was having trouble breathing, and looked like he could fall over at any minute. Barrett was attempting to be patient but having trouble doing so. These senior politicians hang on to their gravy train for dear life.
