Rubio: Ivanka Trump will face ‘tough race’ if she wants to be Florida senator

Republican Senator for Florida Marco Rubio on Sunday declined to speculate on rumors that former US president Donald Trump’s daughter, Ivanka, may challenge him for his seat in 2022, saying only that anyone seeking to take his position in the Senate will face a “tough race.”

Speaking to Fox News, Rubio also said that trying the former president in the Senate would be counterproductive and like “pouring gasoline on the fire.”

Ivanka Trump, a former senior adviser to the president, is said to be considering a run for office and rumors were given a further boost after she and her husband, Jared Kushner, recently purchased a multi-million dollar property in Miami.

Asked how he felt about a primary challenge from Trump, Rubio responded, “Well, I don’t really get into the parlor games of Washington.”

Rubio went on, “When you decide to run for reelection in a state like Florida, you have to be prepared for a competitive race, you run it like a competitive race, so that’s what I’m preparing to run, a very competitive race against a tough opponent.

“I don’t own the Senate seat, it doesn’t belong to me. If I want to be back in the US Senate I have to earn that every six years.

That little suck-up would benefit from being knocked unconscious some day.

Her dad carried Florida, why shouldn’t she?

I’m not a big fan of her efforts to be quite honest, but who
is Rubio to make such an idiotic comment?

Most of what I heard along those lines was that she was empathetic to Climate Change and might have taken advantage of her position to push President Trump to support those sorts of policies.

I don’t think she ever did anything of the kind.

Trump should kindly tell her to forget it.

Big-Leagueiest mistake on his part was to bring her and Jared anywhere near his administration.

They might be liberal but they were loyal. After all, they were family. Jared did a spectactular job with his position as "envoy for the President", he moved the embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, helped to negotiate peace treaty between Israel and three Arab nations.

Bingo.

He got us farther down the road to peace than the Left will
ever get us.

I see it as completely the opposite. Those two were probably his best hires. The only ones who had President Trump’s back. If he gave them a job to do, they did it. They are trustworthy and don’t try to backstab him. They don’t talk to the media. Ivanka said she was a proud Trump Republican and was in the truest sense of the word. Cannot say that about anyone else. Jared was also the one who actually ran his campaign in 2016 so without him there probably wouldn’t be a Trump win.

I agree....though we know Trump naturally sees his kids favorably...Ivanka served both Jarad and her father well. But as Governor....nah. Perhaps Don Jr.?

If she runs she wins. There is also another possible candidate from Miami planning on running. He will win too if Ivanka is out. Rubios days are numbered.

Rubio’s not going to roll over and let Ivanka Trump take his seat. It’s going to be a nasty primary so I hope she has her big girl pants on because it’s going to be a rough ride.

We are so lucky in Florida. We have DeSantis, Sabatini, Gaetz, and many more. Honestly Rubio over ivanka for sure. Ivanka reminds me of Hillary. Thinks she can move to Florida to run for senate. Nope. And she is NOT her father at all.

Yup, Jane. Don, Jr., would be better (sans Kimberly - yuk!). I think Ivanka’s attitude is off-putting to a lot of people — superior or something. I don’t believe she feels that way, but she presents that way.

I think Don would be more successful against Rubio than Ivanka. Not positive.

I actually prefer Eric to all of ‘em, but I think he’s happy as is. And if Lara runs for office in SC, then they’ll be entrenched there.

Last thing Florida needs is a full blown blue state person lecturing the Floridians. Fix that disaster of a state you live in.
