Sanders: Senate may use budget reconciliation to pass Biden agenda
The Hill ^ | 1/25/2021 | John Bowden

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), the incoming Senate Budget Committee chairman, said on Sunday that Senate Democrats would use a tactic known as budget reconciliation to pass parts of President Biden's agenda if Republicans refuse to support Biden's plans.

Speaking on CNN's "State of the Union," Sanders welcomed the prospect of Republican support for the president's plan for an economic recovery package in response to the COVID-19 pandemic but warned that the GOP had set a precedent with its use of the tactic, which allows senators to approve certain tax and spending bills with a simple majority and sidestep the 60-vote threshold needed for most legislation, while President Trump was in office.

I criticized Republicans for using reconciliation... Yes, I did criticize them for that," Sanders said. "And if they want to criticize me for helping to feed children who are hungry – or senior citizens who are isolated and alone and don’t have enough food, they can criticize me. I think it’s the appropriate step forward."

Hard to take any politician seriously.

So frustrating that they get to have the message. We are the adults who say no, but we need to up our messaging.

Politics really is the Art of “finding out what you can get away with”.

Politicians have no principles and don’t necessarily care about the law. They just “do stuff” until someone stops them.

And if you’re a Dem, with a lapdog media, and a stone stupid public, the sky is the limit.

It is not “Biden’s” agenda. They are just blank pages to him.

Ol’ Sob Story Sanders playing for the sympathy vote.

This confuses some, but...

You’re crossing The Golden Gate and come upon someone outside the railing contemplating a leap into the bay.

EMPATHY relates to their situation and calmly talks them down.
SYMPATHY climbs over the rail and joins them in contemplating doom.

Dems always roll with sympathy.
BUT, at the Moment of Truth, they pull a head fake, watch everyone else jump, then go back to the office and issue a Press Release blaming Republicans.

True. Biden is just a figurehead. That’s why he has his own “handlers”.

So the new (but in reality old) narrative is that Republicans want children to starve and old people to die in the streets.

It’s all about narratives. The right thing to do is to stand up and shout “Hell no, Senator! you’re full of it!” But where is the courage in the GOP to refute these lies? Where, oh where...

“I criticized Republicans for using reconciliation... Yes, I did criticize them for that,”

Therefore, every Democrat is a hypocrite.

As is all who previously favorited budget reconciliation and now opposes it.

This old Bolshevik crank Sanders needs to retire to a nice dacha in rural Vermont.

Dems couldn’t pass 1.9 trillion, even through reconciliation. Even a dozen Democrats know that it’s stupidly large, especially on the heels of 900 billion a month ago.

Bernie is basically isolated, but he IS the budget committee chairman, so he’s not without some influence.

Biden does NOT want to do reconciliation, he wants a bipartisan deal with Romney Collins Murk Cassidy Portman Toomey and the rest of the moderate R’s but it’s not going to be 1.9 trillion. It might be 1/4 that amount.

Something will pass, but it will be covid vaccination money, more unemployment weeks, and some state and local funding. The direct stimulus checks, if they happen need to be targeted only at the very low income. The phaseouts in the Biden plan went up to household incomes of $350,000 still getting some money. That’s stupid. Send them to households with incomes below 50k and phase out fully at 75k.

Seems like that was preordained. More debt, here it comes.

So the trillions spent during the previous administration weren’t enough, we need to heap more senseless spending and pass it the same way Obamacare was passed. This is pure theft of our children’s future. Sanders is an old communist who not only wants to enslave his generation but future generations also by burying them in unsustainable debt.

He's a fool, and Biden is demented, that is who is running our country. If it weren't true I wouldn't believe it.

In many ways, Trump, too, was not successful. Just about all that he accomplished was by executive order, which is being undone in a hurry. He did not persuade the Republicans to pass any laws, and maybe it’s too much to expect Republicans to actually do anything for us. Also, Trump had a terrible record on the people he picked to advise him and be in his administration.

He accomplished a good deal, but the RINO's could have done much more in the first two years.
