Ohio Sen. Rob Portman not running for reelection in 2022

Two-term Republican Sen. Rob Portman of Ohio announced Monday that he won’t seek a third six-year term when he is up for reelection in 2022.

Portman touted his legislative achievements in a statement announcing the news, but the senator also pointed to congressional gridlock as a reason he won’t campaign for another term in the Senate. He serves on the Senate Finance, Homeland Security and Foreign Relations Committees.

"I don’t think any Senate office has been more successful in getting things done, but honestly, it has gotten harder and harder to break through the partisan gridlock and make progress on substantive policy, and that has contributed to my decision," Portman wrote.

Another reason may be he has lost his committee assignments. This is where Senators make their money...off lobbyists.

IIRC this was one of the first RINOs who ran to pronounce his support for gay marriage, but at least he wasn’t a loudmouth and a pretty dependable vote. Senator Jordan sounds good

Jim Jordan needs to step up. He’s a great guy but they have been beating him down over the OSU wrestling scandal for years now (softening him up in anticipation of a move to the major league IMO). Despite that, he has had no problem holding his current seat. That would be a pretty big win for us.

Senator Jordan sounds real good. You know they’ll throw everything at him but Ohio conservatives has held the line for 2 elections now. I don’t think we were pushed back an inch. I think we could get him across the finish line.

The Dems are going to have a filibuster proof majority in 2023. The numbers are very badly skewed against Republicans.

Good!!

Kick this RINO to the curb.

We need a Patriot Party candidate to take his place.

Maybe. Maybe not.

If the Rs take the House, and grow a spine, we can stop the Senate trash.

If, brother, if.

The entire judiciary up to and including the Supreme Court gave democrats free rein to steal any election they like.

To think democrats will let fair elections determine who wins the House majority in 2022 is like believing the Great Pumpkin will appear.

Schumer/Pelosi are working on recruiting Portman now.

Republicans are going to lose 10 seats in the Senate in 2022? No chance provided that conservatives end up being the nominees in most of the Senate races.

Then Trump is wasting his time; and so are we. And there is no need for sites like this.

For some reason, I don't think Satan is fixin’ to win. Probably because I don't think God is dead.

But yes, it does look bleak from a secular view.

As 2022 approaches, this is how i see a few things going down...

North Carolina - Richard “Insider” Burr is retiring. The most likely Dem nominee would be that creep Cal Cunningham. He raised a s-load of money and lost a close race to Thom Tillis.

Pensylvania - Pat “Two-Face” Toomey is retiring. I’m not sure that we have a deep enough bench to be able to hold on to that seat. The Dems do have a deep enough bench to be able to pick up that seat. Throw in obvious voter fraud in Philly and Pittsburgh and we could lose that seat.

Ohio - The GOP has a deep enough bench (and Ohio is GOP enough) to hold that seat. It depends on who we nominate. I like Jim Jordan - but can he win statewide?

I haven’t looked at the other races but at the minimum, we’re down two GOP seats.

I don’t have much hope for the Senate in 2022.

But an overwhelming House win will send a big message.

I’m mighty disappointed!

As an Ohio voter I was looking forward to celebrating his crushing defeat in the 2022 primary.

Oh, well, I’m sure I can find another cause to open the champagne I had put by.
