A prayer during the swearing-in of the 117th Congress on Sunday, January 3, by Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-MO), ended weirdly. In the ludicrous attempt to be inclusive, Cleaver concluded his prayer with the words “Amen and Awomen.”
As we’ve witnessed, the Left has wrestled control of public discourse and is enforcing a new, stricter political correctness edict. Congress, under the demented "leadership" of Nancy Pelosi, is absurdly banning words such as father and mother. It didn't take long for the ultra-flaky Ms. Pelosi to break her own rules.
If only the lunacy was confined to Congress… This just in! In real estate sales, master bedrooms must now be called primary bedrooms. Chief investigators must now be called lead investigators. See? Don't you feel more virtuous already?
A Cultural Battering Ram
"Political correctness" (PC) is nothing more than thought-control and the verbal weapon of choice for those who insist that everyone think like they do, and toe the line as they direct. PC is the cultural battering ram of choice by those who seek to silence others or belittle other people for the language they use, even if such language is not offensive. Such people viciously label others who don't agree with their viewpoint, ruin careers and diminish any activity that doesn't conform to such verbal fascism.
PC can immobilize otherwise dedicated government agents from doing their jobs of protecting U.S. citizenry and upholding the U.S. Constitution. Consider "sanctuary cities" and the city officials within them. By definition, they are at odds with the Constitution which affords protection to U.S. citizens, not to illegal aliens.
In 2009, Janet Napolitano, then-Secretary of Homeland Security, would not mention the word "terrorism," even following blatant acts of terrorism on U.S. soil. After her first testimony on Capitol Hill, she told a reporter that she is aware of terrorism threats, but employs the term "man-caused" disasters.
Big Brother is Watching
PC is employed to thwart effective and productive investigation into the nefarious activities of individuals. As such, PC kills. In 2015, many people knew of the highly questionable behavior and activities of the San Bernardino Islamic husband and wife who became mass murderers. Observers consciously avoided reporting them due to their minority status.
In Orlando, the same phenomenon occurred as in San Bernardino. An Islamic mass murderer actually was known by many people to be unhinged and potentially violent. Too late: 49 people died, many more were gravely injured, and a town, state, and nation were in shock. Had the shooter used a bomb instead of a gun, he might have murdered close to 350 people, not "merely" 49.
In the wake of the Orlando massacre, the Obama Administration mandated that the U.S. Department of Justice, Homeland Security, and other agencies be barred from using the words jihad and Sharia. In April 2016, Obama's Department of Justice coined new terminology for convicted criminals. Hereafter they were to be called justice-involved individuals. Youthful offenders were to be called justice-involved youth.
In 2021, a single word in a single tweet disapproved by the "woke" crowd can end one's career. Likewise, so can a comment one made 40 years ago. To take issue with the activities of Antifa or BLM is to risk ruining your livelihood.
Modern Day Thought Suppression
PC is the go-to tool of domination, contending that Caucasians, primarily western males, are the embodiment of oppression and their views, behaviors, and actions are inherently wrong because they are Caucasian western males. Conversely, PC holds that minorities can do little wrong, essentially because they are minorities.
PC comes with its own set of trigger words, such as "white privilege," "micro-aggression," and "mansplaining," each designed to squelch the experiences, rational, observations, and worthiness of the presumably non-conforming opposition. In any case, PC is among the primary curses of our times.
You have to expect weirdness from the left.
