The new president availed himself of Seila Law v. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
The U.S. Supreme Court's June 2020 decision in Seila Law v. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau was not warmly received by certain progressive activists. "The far right just scored a victory," announced Marge Baker of People for the American Way. "Powerful corporate forces have turned their losing political case into a rigged constitutional one," intoned Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D–R.I.). "They've moved fringe legal theories into mainstream conservative legal thought."
At issue in the case was the legality of the single-director structure of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). Although appointed by the president to a five-year term, the director of the CFPB did not technically answer to the executive branch and could only be fired for "inefficiency, neglect of duty, or malfeasance." In other words, the president was forbidden from firing the CFPB director for purely political reasons, such as policy disagreements.
The Supreme Court found that structure unconstitutional. "The CFPB Director has no boss, peers, or voters to report to," observed Chief Justice John Roberts. "Yet the Director wields vast rulemaking, enforcement, and adjudicatory authority over a significant portion of the U. S. economy. The question before us is whether this arrangement violates the Constitution's separation of powers." The majority held that it did.
Is that a "far right" decision? If so, President Joe Biden joined the vast right-wing conspiracy this week when he used Seila Law to advance his own agenda.
"As requested by the Biden administration, today I resigned as Director of the CFPB," wrote Kathy Kraninger, the Donald Trump-appointed head of the bureau. She "announced her departure via Twitter roughly an hour after Biden was inaugurated as the 46th U.S. president," noted The Hill. Thanks to Seila Law, Biden was free to push her out and pick his own nominee to head the agency.
This little episode illustrates one of the problems with viewing the behavior of the Supreme Court in simplistic left/right terms, as folks like Sheldon Whitehouse tend to do. Namely, that sort of viewing often misses the full implications of the Court's actions. After all, it was pretty clear that future presidents of both parties stood to gain in this particular case. As I noted when the ruling came down last year, "Here's one potential real-world impact of today's decision: If Joe Biden wins the presidency in November, he will be free to fire the bureau's Donald Trump–appointed director for purely political reasons."
Gotta give Bidum credit, he knows how to get rid of people and appoint his own
Trump should take notes here for 2024
Trump couldn’t find people willing to take the arrows to work for him. The Deep State made it clear there would be consequences.
“Trump should take notes here for 2024”
Trump had two major failings:
1) Many bad appointments
2) He didn’t have great appointments ready to put in place when he was elected. He spent the first year of his administration trying to staff it. His first six months were crippled by reliance on Obama holdovers.
That agency needs to be eliminated.
Like I said, I think people were threatened if they did work for Trump, and Mitch basically told Trump that anyone that Mitch didn’t approve of would be DOA in the Senate.
Hopefully though, Trump has inspired many people who now will be willing to work for him, or his heir apparent in 2024.
Congress [PRyno/Nazi and Ditch] largely worked to thwart Trump for 4 years.
This ain't Biden's first Rodeo. He's had 47 years' worth of training in how the Swamp operates, and has the cooperation of the career Swamp people helping him at every turn.
All of the things that Trump didn't have. Trump was naïve enough to believe that like his corporations, once he was 'the boss,' everybody else fell into line.
Biden does nothing but Drool on himself it’s the Puppeteers running the sideshow

Right now we are seeing what the Republican establishment really thought about him. Next month’s Senate ‘trial’ will reveal more.
Oh please. Trump fired Comey ... and the democrats went full impeachment !
It’s been four years of this nonstop crap !
You forgot about the point about the fact that McConnell would only confirm his own deep state cronies like Barr.
He should have just left them vacant.
Plus all the bureaucrats were commies so were part of the helping resistance when Trump was in there. Slow walked paperwork for years. Many appointments didn’t happen the entire term- one guy got in the day before Biden’s usurpation only to be pulled out! Below the appointment level, if he got appointments finally in, all those below were actively working against Trump.
Biden hitting the ground running!
Obama be like: I wish I had the balls of that Delaware Commie!
I mentioned that as well, he got it from all sides.
“”That agency needs to be eliminated.””
Absolutely correct - that was Elizabeth Warren’s brainchild!!
CFPB will no go after conservatives, bigtime. That was why it was created in the first place. Trump stopped it, but couldn’t kill it completely. It will now rise up to screw us all.
Trump got more done in 4 years than all previous presidents since Reagan.
Trump won in a landslide in 2020.
There is no need for anyone to criticize Trump.
If anyone needs criticism, stand and look in the mirror.
We let an enemy take over our elections and steal the presidency.
How many of us got on the phone and screamed bloody murder at our state legislators?
How many of us even know who our state legislators are?
How many of us know our state legislators are the supreme body with plenary powers over their state’s Electors? (Article II)
How many of us even know the Constitution?
How many of our state legislators know the Constitution?
Voters in battleground states did in fact scream bloody murder at their legislators. State legislative bodies in AZ, GA, MI, PA, NV, WI caught hell from voters. AZ, GA, MI, PA legislatures acted to bring fraud to the surface but were stymied by counties, courts, Marxist state executives, state prosecutors.
January 20 the AZ legislature FINALLY won via the courts the acknowledgement and ruling they have full authority to access the ballots and machines. And yet, Maricopa County still refuses to turn materials over because they are hiding the truth while Democrat media pump lies into homes that allegations of fraud are baseless and pathetic.
And you want to blame Trump?
