There obviously were backroom deals with the GOPe invertebrates, who offered their support for Asterisk46 in exchange for his pledge (LOL) to keep the filibuster for now.

I don’t know why. Unlike Harry Reid employing the “nuclear option” which was used against Dems when Reps took over, that can’t happen now.

Republicans are slated to sit and watch, and most of them are happy about it. I just answered my own question. Why change the rules when you don’t need to.

What this “lady” says doesn’t mean anything, when he changes his mind it will be because he has “evolved” on the issue and has “matured” in his thinking.

Is there anything more hypocritical in American politics than politicians in the Senate with the filibuster? They literally and shamelessly flip-flop every couple of years depending on whether their party controls the Senate or not.

“We need the filibuster, it’s vital!” Two years later win the majority. “Abolish the filibuster, it’s obstructionist!” Four years later lose the Senate. “The filibuster encourages compromise, the Senate is the cooling saucer of American federal politics!” Two years later win the Senate back. “The filibuster was installed by slave lover James Calhoun, the Founders never intended for it to exist!”

All from the same exact individual. It’s nuts. And it’s not just one, it’s like 90-95 of them. Aside from a few exceptions such as Joe Manchin or consistent filibuster defender John McCain when he was alive, they all just shuffle their position and talking points on it every few years and apparently have amnesia about what they said sometimes just one year ago.

The filibuster helps Democrats more anyhow so they never really wanted to scrap it. They just stayed ambiguous on it to try to leverage concessions from our idiots that can’t negotiate.

“It’s going to depend on how obstreperous they become,” he said, referring to Republicans.

Translation - "The GOP has to continue to roll over and allow us to do what we please."

Bite-me needs the filibuster, but I didn't think he would be smart enough to know it.

If the filibuster stays, he doesn't have to say no to Sanders and The Squad as to their radical agenda, which could well lose the Dems Congress in 2022. He can blame its defeat on those darn Republicans.
