This party wasn’t the cat’s meow.
Fifteen people contracted COVID-19 in a small Chilean town — after reportedly attending a birthday party for a cat.
It was unclear when exactly the party took place in the exclusive coastal enclave of Santo Domingo, but local media reported that 10 people attended, all of whom became sick.
The other five infected people are reportedly family and friends of the cat’s owner.

Maybe this is Darwin Awards at work?
Cat’s birthday party??
“after reportedly attending a birthday party for a cat.”
We are doomed.
Is this a normal thing in Chile?
Catatonic I tell you, simply Catatonic
birthday party for a cat??????????????..................................
I have attended a dog’s birthday party. (I live in the SF Bay Area which would explain it.)
We all met with our dogs at a dog play place (agility). The dogs were adorned with bandanas around their necks.
Then we went to a dog-friendly restaurant that actually had a dog menu (I didn’t buy food for my dog), and we gave the “birthday dog” his gifts there.
It was pretty fun actually. Worse ways to spend an afternoon.

― Robert A. Heinlein
Or did the cat know?
Crazy. A birthday party for a dog yes, but not a cat. Cats don’t have time for that nonsense.

What were their symptoms after they got sick?
very similar to the Computer virus extortion racket, "give us all your money or you get the virus"
What a Catastrophe.
They meowed and coughed up dry furballs
Meowing and purring
Cue up the Nuge and Cat Scratch Fever
Or some Squeeze
To change the mood a little I’ve been posing down the pub
On seeing my reflection, I’m looking slightly rough
I fancy this, I fancy that, I wanna be so flash
I give a little muscle and I spend a little cash
But all I get is bitter and a nasty little rash
And by the time I’m sober I’ve forgotten what I’ve had
And everybody tells me that it’s cool to be a cat
Cool for cats (cool for cats)
No. Cats are not normally in chile.
