Someone suggested in their video presentation that McConnell was trying to delay the trial to February to possibly help Trump. What do you think of this theory?
What Trump can do is demand the right to mount a complete defense. Call witnesses. Develop extenuating circumstances by presenting all the evidence the election WAS stolen. Subpoena state voting records, election officials, and machines to be examined. Call all witnesses who have already sworn affidavits. Use this trial to make the case for theft. If anything he can dare Roberts to rule against him and then proclaim with reason that he was denied his constitutional rights as a defendant. He can also stifle the Senate as it tries to co duct regular business.
In his remarks, Schumer said, “make no mistake, there will be a trial and when that trial ends senators will have to decide if they believe Donald John Trump incited the erection” — then corrected himself to say, “insurrection against the United States.”

Actually, McConnell would rather push out the impeachment, as it ties Trump away from offending the Senate with talk if a new party or a Quo Warranto or whatever lawsuit.
Nancy is moving up the timeline, which means Trump will get this resolved earlier. This helps Trump.
