Cesar Chavez’s Great-niece Has No Idea Why Joe Biden Put Bust in Oval Office
Breitbart ^

Rachel Garcia, the great-niece of farm workers’ union organizer Cesar Chavez, is grateful that President Joe Biden chose a bust of her famous relative to place behind the Resolute desk in the Oval Office — but she has no idea why he did so.

Biden, like President Barack Obama before him, removed a bust of the legendary British Prime Minister Winston Churchill from the Oval Office, a symbol of the special relationship between the United States and Great Britain.

He placed the Chavez bust on the table behind his desk, among portraits of his family members, where it will be seen by anyone meeting with him and will be captured by photographers’ lenses or television cameras in national TV addresses.

Yet Biden has little known association with Chavez. The civil rights leader, who is a prominent hero among many Latinos, is not mentioned once in Biden’s 2007 political memoir, Promises to Keep, which recounted his Senate career to that point.

---snip----

Biden performed unusually poorly with Hispanic voters in the 2020 presidential election, losing them first to rival Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) in the primary, and then by underperforming among Latinos against Trump in the general election.

The U.S. Navy named a ship for Chavez, a veteran, in 2012. Notably, Chavez opposed illegal immigration, seeing it as a threat to the wages of unionized workers legally present in the United States.

It was Churchill who used every trick in the book to draw the US into WW II—and some historians believe (and I am convinced) that the British had broken the entire Japanese code before Pearl Harbor and kept the missing pieces from the US to make sure the Japanese attack was successful.

and it is all true because I read it on the internet /s

He also at least purported to be an anticommunist and purged suspected communists and far-leftists from his union. Not sure what the Antifa caucus thinks of that.

Chavez was the leader of the United Farm Workers union and is best known for when McGovern was running for President. Chavez organized the lettuce pickers and got McGovern in a photo op where he said “I will not eat another salad until Chavez and his members win!”

I argued this with a Sociology prof when I was an econ prof. I told her this boycott was exactly the wrong thing to do. She didn’t understand. The conversation went like this:

Me: If the boycott is successful, what will happen to the demand for lettuce?
Her: It will go down!
Me: And if demand falls, what will happen to price?
Her: It will fall.
Me: And if prices fall, what will happen to the farmers’ abilities to give a wage increase?
Her: Errr...it goes down.
Me: What would happen to the demand for lettuce if McGovern instead said: “I’m going to eat 10 salads a day until this is settled”.
Her: Demand would increase.
Me: And since supply is fixed in the short run, what would happen to price?
Her: Umm...It would go up.
Me: And what would happen to the farmers’ ability to give a wage increase?
Her: Well, that may be, but I don’t believe it!!

Whereupon she stomped out of my office. She and other liberals I taught with did that a lot over the years...

Joe doesn’t know either. Or who Cesar Chavez was. Or what the Oval Office is.

Oh, he knows. A lot of elders suffering dementia demonstrate great recall of their youth. His additions are ALL from the '60s ... RFK, MLK, Caesar Chavez. Next he'll be asking for a concert from Peter, Paul and Mary.

There are a lot of books that deal with this topic—and while it is controversial and takes some work, that time will be rewarded if you put in the effort and pay close attention to all the details.

British code-breaking skills were far superior to American skills in the relevant time period.

Yep! Wouldn't it be fun to watch a Liberal debate Ben Shapiro or someone like him on the difference between liberal and conservative policies with respect to overall well-being. Even books, like Friedman's Free To Choose, indirectly use the process to win the day. I have yet to see a Liberal win a debate based on facts.

My guess.

Modern day farm workers are the slaves of today, so apparently its a tribute to them. I guess Biden could have put an original slave farm worker bust from the 19th century in the oval office as a tribute to their off spring, who were fooled into voting for the slavery supporting Democrat party once again, but that would seem a bit crass.

Do they know that Chavez vehemently opposed illegal immigration, because of the downward pressure on wages?

Illegal Immigration only creates a permanent underclass, Democrats only care about their votes, and Repukes only want the cheap labor.

Caesar Chavez was for tight border canto and hated illegal immigration.
Chavez increasingly blamed the failure of the UFW strike on illegal immigrants who were brought in as strikebreakers.[241] He made the unsubstantiated claim that the CIA was involved in part of a conspiracy to bring illegal migrants into the country so that they could undermine his union.[242] He launched the "Illegals Campaign" to identify illegal migrants so that they could be deported, appointing Liza Hirsch to oversee the campaign.[241][243] In Chavez's view, "if we can get the illegals out of California, we will win the strike overnight."[244] Huerta urged him not to refer to migrants who had come to the U.S. illegally as "illegals" but Chavez refused, stating: "a spade's a spade."[244] Some UFW field offices refused to collaborate with the campaign,[244] and the National Lawyers Guild (NLG) refused to allow its interns to work on it, at which Chavez cut the UFW's links with the NLG.[244]
