Pentagon deploys active-duty troops to DC ahead of Biden inauguration

The Pentagon has deployed 750 specially trained members of the US military — including bomb squads and trauma medics — to Washington, DC, amid security concerns over Wednesday’s inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden.

The troops also include active-duty personnel trained in “extraction and decontamination operations” following attacks with chemical, biological, nuclear, radiological and explosive weapons, the Department of Defense said Monday.

Time for folks to ‘cool their jets’ on this one. It is routine for the Army to reinforce its “anti-explosives aka bomb squads” for presidential inaugurations. I spent 30 years there and one of them I was detailed to be an aid, to my boss who was on inauguration planning group. One of the points was going to the standing inauguration plans to bring in additional military trauma and bomb units. At 750 soldiers, that is a normal amount and will be tucked away where they won’t be seen and will quietly go back to their home station afterward.
