Rudy Giuliani has said he will not be on Donald Trump's legal team for the upcoming Senate impeachment trial - a day after claiming he would be spearheading the president's defense.
Speaking to ABC News on Sunday night, the former mayor of New York said: 'Because I gave an earlier speech [at the January 6 Trump rally], I am a witness and therefore unable to participate in court or Senate chamber.'
During the speech, Giuliani had instructed supporters to engage in 'trial by combat' moments before they stormed the Capitol - comments which have left him facing his own potential legal troubles.

Giuliani was bad news from day one. He likes to hear himself talk and becomes the news. He ran an incompetent defense of the president, now says more stupid things. Embarrassing.

‘Course, “trial by combat” can be a euphemism.
Giuliani has not served President Trump well. He makes claims he can’t back up. And remember, he coached Trump for the disastrous first debate.
I hope yr right, but the Dems have trashed so may legal standards, it may just be a show trial, where Trump is allowed no defence......these people are utter criminals.
Impeachment is a “political” procedure, not a “legal” one. Meaning, there is no “discovery.”

Reverse the order and his remarks make perfect sense.

Yes. Maybe Trump or someone around him smartened up and told Rudy his services would not be required, so he should make up an excuse and bow out.
