A New Mexico county official was arrested Sunday after federal authorities said he entered a restricted section of the U.S. Capitol during the deadly pro-Trump incursion and led rioters in prayer.
Couy Griffin, an Otero County commissioner and founder of Cowboys for Trump, was arrested in Washington. D.C., and faces a single charge of knowingly entering or remaining in a restricted building without lawful authority, a federal criminal complaint said.
In an affidavit, a Metropolitan Police detective said a Cowboys for Trump videographer told authorities that after he and Griffin saw the group push past security barriers, they scaled the Capitol building’s wall before making their way to an outside deck.
There, Griffin used a bullhorn to lead the group in prayer, the document states.
In a video cited by the affidavit, Griffin also told the crowd that it was a “great day for America” and that “people are showing that they’ve had enough.”
“People are ready for fair and legal elections, or this what you’re going to get,” he said, according to the affidavit.
In a Facebook post on the Cowboys for Trump page, Griffin later said he planned to return to the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 20 for a possible “2nd Amendment rally” that would include “blood running out of that building,” the affidavit says.
At a Jan. 14 Otero County meeting, Griffin told other officials that he planned on taking a rifle and a revolver when he returned to Washington, according to the affidavit.

I never thought I’d see the day that our top federal investigative agency make an arrest for what amounts to trespassing. We’re truly living in 1933 Germany and the Reichstag was just burned. Get ready for more punitive actions from the feds while antifa and BLM get a pass. I fear that free speech may become a thing of the past at least where conservatives are concerned.

It was a planned intrusion led by blm/antifa radicals dressed as Trump supporters. Of the 2 million Trump supporters in DC that day only 100 weak minded supporters followed the blm/antifa agitators. If it can be proven that anyone breached the security of the capitol they should be arrested AFTER AN INVESTIGATION IS CONDUCTED of the total Jan 6 fiasco. Why did the capitol police not resist but invited the crowd into the building? Why did Nancy leave the speaker’s chair minutes before a breach was announced? Who told the leftist rioters to dress as Trump supporters? Who paid them to be there?
Did the Capitol police forget that they were not supposed to let anyone in without a time-stamped ticket, or did Nancy just wave away their concern for the rule that no one was supposed to get in without a time-stamped ticket requested by each person's congressman 2 to 3 months in advance?
Offhand I am wondering what the set up was and was it entrapment. Cause how could he be stupid enough to make such a statement just out of the blue in casual conversation?
The “cowboys for Trump” guy [a group I’ve never heard of] has a videographer? That sounds an awful lot like John Earle Sullivan who founded his group InsurgenceUSA who described himself as a videographer and had a female assistant, and plans for additional protests after Jan 6.
Sullivan of course turned out to be BLM.
