Late last year, firefighters were the first city workers given access to the shots. After an initial burst of activity, the number showing up to get the vaccine has plummeted. This past week only 143 firefighters visited one of the department’s vaccination centers, according to data released by the city Friday night. So far, 1,944 of the agency’s just under 3,400 members have been inoculated, leaving four in 10 vulnerable to the highly infectious coronavirus.
The reluctance of L.A. firefighters adds to the list of healthcare workers in the state who are declining to take the vaccine...
In a bid to encourage participation, Fire Chief Ralph M. Terrazas has resorted to offering prizes to those who get the shot. Vaccinated firefighters get entered into a raffle where the gifts include Canary home security cameras, Google Nest entertainment systems, Aventon fixed-gear bicycles and gift cards for Airbnb and Lyft.
The gifts are funded by the LAFD Foundation, a nonprofit organization that raises money to support the department, according to a memo distributed by Terrazas that was obtained by The Times.

The fire district I work for has a 50%+ group declining to get vaccinated. I think as a group first responders are less susceptible to fear mongering.
Plenty of people under 70 are being hospitalized with this disease and some of them are dying. Regardless, firefighters come into contact with vulnerable people all the time as part of their emergency medical response role. It's firefighters showing up when grandma falls in the tub. Firefighters showing up when a cancer patient or heart patient has a medical issue. And if they're infected and contagious with COVID-19, some of those people they're showing up to help will die.
1. Nobody has any reason to trust in the efficacy of a vaccine that has been approved by the U.S. government.
2. Nobody has any reason to believe that such a vaccine has no harmful long-term effects.

Real vaccines are tested on millions of people all over the world over decades—and their efficacy and risk factors are analyzed in depth for all different population groups.
These new “vaccines” are to real vaccines what the “election” was to a real election.

3. Death rate from getting the bug is really low. Firefighters are healthy specimens.

No, the covid bioweapon already sterilized the guys. The vaccine sterilizes the girls and maybe kills either.
I never got the flu shot, didn’t get the pneumonia shot, why would I get the Covid shot.
Maybe they will give the shots to the caravan of illegals that are headed this way.

There is another big reason for firefighters to take it. Sure they may survive COVID..but they may end up long haulers with damaged lungs...fatigue and inability to carry that heavy equipment

So if anyone 70+ wants to get inoculated, if they have balanced the tradeoff between the odds, then what the hell is your problem?
If a 30-year-old LA County EMT doesn't want the vax, good on him. It's up to the 70+ crew to get it done, and I say that in good conscience who just took both parents to get the Pfizer vax on Friday.
