The retired firefighter who appears to be the man caught on camera throwing a fire extinguisher that hit at least three officers at the Capitol during a riot was arrested Thursday, officials said.
Robert Sanford, of Chester, Pa., faces three federal felony charges including assaulting a police officer, the Wall Street Journal reported.
Video footage of the incident shows the man hurling a fire extinguisher officers attempting to control a mob outside of the west side of the Capitol.
The FBI has been pursuing charges against dozens of suspects in the riots, many of whom were identified through photos and videos circulating on social media-- some posted by participants themselves.

You know a lot of middle-aged firefighters who are with Antifa?
Yep, incahoots, jmho.
Think mr mccarthy should be informed, he seems to be ignorant, maybe on purpose?
Was the democrat mayor of DC in charge of the police?
I have no idea.
If so she probably gave orders to stand down. jmo.
The article says Chester PA.
Impossible, as there are zero White people in Chester.
They spelled Marcus Hook or Ridley Park wrong...
There was a video of this a couple of days ago. This man (or somebody) was walking across the terrace and he picked up an empty fire extinguisher and tossed it away towards the crowd at the foot of the terrace without even looking. There was a group of helmeted police and demonstrators pressed together (fighting? I don’t know) at the bottom of the terrace and the fire extinguisher fell among them.
In other words, it didn’t look like he was aiming for the police or anybody. He obviously had to know it would hit somebody, so I’m not defending him, but if this is the same incident, he wasn’t standing there clobbering a police officer.
The police officer died the next day of a stroke which the police spokesman said was not connected to getting hit.
Again, not defending this guy at all (unless there was a later part to this that I didn’t see), but the whole thing has morphed into a different scenario.
Too bad they can’t move this fast with Antifa and BLM
OR Hillary’s emails.
Heading to Federal PMITA Prison.
On ABC news last evening they showed someone inside the Capitol Building with a “Club Auschwitz” T-shirt. They said the FBI is looking for him.
So is anyone who was inside the Capitol Building guilty of something other that transpassing? Are they looking at felony charges?
Ever picked up a fire extinguisher?
They are not light, even the small ones weigh a lot
Just a comment on the observation, not the argument.
Local man seen wearing 'Camp Auschwitz' sweatshirt during Capitol riots released after arrest
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - A Virginia man seen wearing a 'Camp Auschwitz' sweatshirt during the Capitol riot was arrested Wednesday morning.
The FBI issued a complaint with an arrest warrant for Robert Keith Packer on Tuesday. Packer was then arrested by FBI in Newport News on Wednesday.
According to court documents, his charges include one count of knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority; and two counts violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds.
Packer is being held at Western Tidewater Regional Jail and is had his initial court appearance at 12:30 p.m.
During his initial court appearance he was read his charges. Packer told the judge he would like to seek his own attorney.
Packer will be released from jail after federal prosecutors sought not to seek detention. Instead, Packer will be released on a personal recognizance bond, which means he will not have to pay any money, but he must attend his next court appearance and stay out of Washington, DC.
His next court appearance is on January 19 in a virtual hearing out of a D.C. courtroom.
Packer was identified as the man wearing a sweatshirt that read 'Camp Auschwitz' during the riot by three sources who spoke to CNN.
The bottom of his shirt read "Work Brings Freedom," which is the rough translation to a German phrase that was known for appearing on the concentration camp's gates.
According to court documents, Packer identity has been confirmed through an investigation after a witness notified authorities that he was a regular customer at a store near Newport News.
Police obtained a surveillance photo of Packer in the store wearing the same 'Camp Auschwitz' sweatshirt.
Police then conducted surveillance at his believed residence in Newport News to confirm.
This is so utterly sad all the way around.
Thanks for the additional info. There’s always more to it than is depicted in news articles, isn’t it. This was a Fox article, so you’d think there’d be a little more effort to find the truth. But, I guess not.
Not including Chicago Fire on TV, I’ve only ever known one firefighter and he wasn’t Antifa...that I know of. Of course, people can fool ya.
