It is news to almost nobody who reads American Thinker that a political witch hunt is underway. Parties in and out of government are looking for excuses to suppress and destroy voices that oppose the left.
Because AT lacks the ability to monitor comments in real time, and because our position that comments are a forum, not something that we publish, is being called into question, we can no longer publish comments.
(Excerpt) Read more at americanthinker.com ...
The website for the leading NJ newspaper (the Star-Ledger’s nj.com) shut down comments early in 2020 in anticipation of ending any pro-Trump postings; now they are looking for subscribers and restricting select stories to subscribers. Nobody is going to pay for it.
A smaller outlet’s website (the Bergen Record’s northjersey.com) is subscriber only to read any stories, but simply entering a headline in your browser usually will bring up a free version of it somewhere. Again, nobody is going to pay for this; there is little worthwhile content, and these outlets have long been the very definition of bias and propaganda.
I consider American Thinker to be the best site out there right now, regarding content.
The absurdity of a "bill of rights" for the internet is that the internet is dominated by anonymity. How do I assert my rights on the internet when I don't even post with my own name -- and (in fact) have multiple identities across multiple platforms?
I think I still have an original Smartmodem 300 around here somewhere. I live 8-10 miles from the Hayes HQs back in the day, know several people who worked there in the glory days. Went to some awesome Comdex and other parties.
I can think of one remedy...
So the left has won. American Thinker has conceded to the left’s pressure to curtail free speech. Will their writing begin to reflect that?
That one went over a lot people’s heads. LOL.
One of my favs!
It’s always fun to post their articles on leftist packed forums and see the ad-hominem attacks against them come out. They really hate that site. :)
You can't protect yourself by silencing yourself. The first amendment is part of the statement of the fact that our rights, among which is the right to free speech, are God given, and are not subject to the whims of government.
They are unalienable.
I thought NJ.com shut down their reader comments because they were embarrassed to see how much better the comments were than the original articles. :-P
I know that
You know that
Parlor knew that
LOL.
I made a post a few days ago that taking violence off the table is unwise. All this "we don't do violence" baloney is, well, baloney. We can say we would reluctanty use violence to restore liberty. There is nothing wrong with that. Our opponent is using violence, initiating it and encouraging it.
The founders warned the King, and the warning was not "we don't do violence" or "see you in court."
But some of us old-timers got it. ;-)
Whattup? No, the comments just corrected the stories...
Speaking of AT, time to brush up on dial-up, modem-to-modem.
That just means they are personal, can't be given, sold, or transferred to somebody else.
It does not mean that government can't or won't curtail or limit.
-- You can't protect yourself by silencing yourself. --
Sure you can. It happens all the time. You can't speak your mind in court, for example. Congress is not a free speech zone, they have all sorts of decorum rules. Patrick Heny would be expelled for saying "give me liberty or give me death."
-- ... and are not subject to the whims of government. --
Our government is liars of the highest order. It is whimsical, dangerous, and anti-liberty. It denies all of that of course. "Orwellian" in fact.
Amen (not a-women).
Those who say violence is never the answer don’t understand the question. And by way of a disclaimer to any weak sisters out there I would add: If conservatives were even a fraction as prone to violence as the left claims there wouldn’t be a left.
I think I still have the US Robotics 56k kicking around somewhere but I ditched the hardline eons ago!
