There were two groups. The first that breached the building were ANTIFA/BLM/whatever, and the news lied and called them Trump supporters. The second group arrived from the Ellipse two hours after it started and Congress and ANTIFA had left. The police let the second group in or didn't fight too hard.

The Capital Police essentially escorted the crowd in. There’s all kinds of video showing the crowd walking by them as they simply stood around. There’s video of the Capital Police moving aside barriers as the crowd is directed into the building.

This was all set up.
