Several Capitol Police officers have been suspended following the Jan. 6 breach of the U.S. Capitol building, Acting Chief Yogananda Pittman announced in a statement late Monday.
United States Capitol Police’s (USCP) Pittman confirmed that the department has suspended several USCP officers following a review of video and other open source materials.
The department is actively reviewing footage of further officers and officials that appear to be in violation of its regulations and policies, said Pittman, who was appointed as USCP acting police chief after the former head resigned in the aftermath of last week’s breach.
“Several USCP officers have already been suspended pending the outcome of their investigations,” she wrote. “The investigation of the January 6 riot is continuing in collaboration with numerous law enforcement agencies and the USCP, along with its law enforcement partners, are aggressively working to identify and arrest those involved in the destruction of property at the U.S. Capitol Complex.”
“It is our intention to prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law.”
Earlier, Rep. Tim Ryan (D-Ohio), who chairs the Appropriations Subcommittee on the Legislative Branch, announced during a virtual press briefing that two Capitol police officers had been suspended after the Capitol breach.
He told reporters that USCP is cracking down on all individuals involved “that potentially facilitated, on a big level or small level in any way,” in the assault on Capitol grounds that took place during Wednesday’s joint session of Congress that saw lawmakers and Vice President Mike Pence counting electoral votes.
One of the officers suspended by Capitol Police was caught on camera taking a selfie with a rioter. The second suspended officer was reportedly seen wearing a red “Make America Great Again” hat and was seen directing people around, he said.
He didn’t further elaborate on details

Of course not. No need to mention to the press that some officers pulled back barricades, waved people in and personally escorted them inside.
Disclaimer: I have seen the videos of Capitol Police fighting protesters and doing their best to keep them out then pushing them out of the rotunda and the building.
Who opened the doors and when?
What was transpiring on the floor when the breach occurred and who left right then?
When were poles passed out from inside the Capitol, by whom and to whom?
When did President Trump start speaking vis a vis when the breach occurred?
When was the stand down order to Metro police given and certain of them sent home?
Just one more cut . . .
What? They failed to shoot enough unarmed protesters?
I am beginning to come around to the idea of de-funding police departments. That is a pretty awful feeling to find myself in possible agreement with the Leftists.
The simplest explanation is that the Capitol Police are nothing more than glorified tour guides and are incapable of dealing with any situation more serious than an unruly jackass in the spectator gallery of the Senate during a vote on a Republican nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court.
I don't think that is what the new Chief is saying ... or not saying.
FWIW I think it is highly unlikely that the guy who shot Ashli Babbitt is any kind of LEO or security.
I’ve seen just tiny bits of the riot videos, but in the ones I’ve seen the offers are standing and watching the rioters walk in. What the tar.
I’ll step out there and agree with everything you said.

I wonder if the shooter’s name is going to be a bigger secret than the Kennedy assassination files. ?
Whether the authorities are going to hold his actions accountable or justify them it’s odd that they are keeping it a secret.
I just hope they cleaned up the blood from the MURDERED WOMAN from a still PROTECTED shooter and erased the video so the narrative can keep going!
OK you’ve seen two things that are in contrast with each other:
1) Police waving and escorting people into the building
2) Police fighting protesters and trying to stop them from entering.
#1 and #2 are at odds with each other.
WHO DID THEY WAVE IN and WHO WERE THEY PREVENTING FROM COMING IN? Is the question.
Why the contrast in their response to two different kinds of people?
The defund efforts center on one perception....low-quality people serving as police. Some of this goes back to the 1990s, and entry requirements. Some of them moved up and actually serve as marginalized leaders now. I’m not sure that defunding is the right tool to resolve this mess now...you might end up with thousands of good quality police leaving, and the poor-quality still around.
The arrest charges contradict the mayhem narrative.
Thanks. I hadn’t seen that one.
Different parts of the building. It’s a big building. Possibly different time frames too. Different groups of cops.
That’s as far as I can speculate.
You’re welcome.
I never realized “breached” means going through a door someone opens for you.
There is an investigation into the use of excessive force and an officer suspended. So he must be official law enforcement of some kind. If this was another George Floyd the officer’s name would be everywhere. Why is he so special and protected. The secracy is disturbing.
