He wants to cancel cancel culture. “Mr. Bean” and “Johnny English” actor Rowan Atkinson is the latest comedian to take a swipe at cancel culture, equating social justice warriors to a “medieval mob.” The comic dropped the bombshell in a lengthy interview with the UK’s Radio Times.
“It’s important that we’re exposed to a wide spectrum of opinion, but what we have now is the digital equivalent of the medieval mob, roaming the streets looking for someone to burn,” the “Blackadder” series creator lamented. “So it is scary for anyone who’s a victim of that mob, and it fills me with fear about the future.”

“It becomes a case of either you’re with us or against us,” the BAFTA winner said of the phenomenon. “And if you’re against us, you deserve to be ‘canceled.’”

He is awesome.
Mr. Atkinson is on my list of the ten funniest comics of all time. Anyone who works in comedy should understand that censorship strikes at the very heart of what they do. Comedy, by its very nature is offensive, to someone at least. And the best comics take aim at the high and mighty.
And he is right.
Someone else said, just recently, that today’s left would drag conservatives to the village commons and burn them if they thought they could get away with it.

Rowan’s a liberal, but it seems he’s more of a classical liberal than the more modern iteration.

I wouldn’t be so sure he’s really a liberal at heart. Rowan’s brother Rodney has been an outspoken conservative and was active in the UKIP at one time. Politics tend to run in the family. Being in show biz, Rowan may just be playing it close to the vest.
In any case, Atkinson is a nice counterpoint to leftist bully “comedian” Sasha Baron Cohen.
