A tech firm, hotels, restaurants, and a big retailer are among the latest companies to detail their layoff plans to state officials, a grim reminder that economic woes during the coronavirus recession have yet to run their course.

“Private Companies can do what they want”
Glad you agree.
Let’s get all these businesses opened back up.
Thnx for playing...
Link is wrong I think.
The economic tidal wave of destruction hasn’t even reached shore yet. Give it about 3 more months. You can’t do what we did (near economic suicide) and come out of it quickly.
Dang it
Yer right...
We have been traveling the country since June. Visited 22 states and still going. In Florida now and it’s dead. The RV park we are staying at was booked solid in June, cold only get 4 days mid January.... but nobody is here. Many don’t have the extra money and many of us olders are afraid to travel. I honestly don’t know how you bring it back.
Meanwhile, at Twitter HQ in SF... YouTuber video of Jermaine Ellis checking out Twitter HQ. I follow this guy on YouTube because he has almost daily reports on the closures in San Francisco. His videos show all the empty downtown streets, devoid of customers, having boarded up restaurants, shows homeless on the streets etc. Hip young black guy on a skateboard or bike, saying the local politicians are destroying the commerce in the city. Check out the video about the 4 minute mark. Lots of barricades around Twitter HQ, lots of cops with tactical gear, helicopters overhead, and unmarked black cop vehicles. But... no Trump protesters. That building used to house a furniture mart where I bought furniture in the past, and also housed some City workers on some floors, before Twitter bought and refurbished the building. Now with Covid rules, very dead around there (2 blocks from City Hall).

Did I just get RickRolled?
“The economic tidal wave of destruction hasn’t even reached shore yet.”
I think you’re correct. The loss of lives and livelihoods will exceed those caused by covid-19.
But here’s the thing. The lockdowns and lockouts got Trump out of office so mission accomplished.
Soon there will be a massive collapse in commercial real estate as thousands of restaurants close down permanently, and companies decide they like having people working from home and don’t need all those offices.
I think it's here. My employer laid off 2.5% of our workforce last week. To put it in perspective, that was 625 people here in the US.
... l. I honestly don’t know how you bring IT back.....
Just get the government to quit taking IT away..
Just picked up prescription at Sam’s. Only three checkouts with people. Every checkout is now self-checkout.
I stopped going to Lowes entirely because the one near me did the same thing. Now what do I do? I refuse to buy anything at Menards!
This makes me so damn' sad. It really truly does.
It’s Biden’s problem now.
We could be in an impending depression at this moment and not realize the impending doom until it hits us in a few weeks or months.
Correction - it's our problem now.
It's Biden's responsibility and that should scare the heck out of everyone.
Our economy and system of government has been destabilized and brought to crisis - whoever is in charge determines where the system is re normalized to.
The President of the United States is going to shape the the nature of the post covid world and it's looking like that guy is going to be Joe Biden. That's what the stakes were in this election and all of our politicians, judges, and institutions failed us. Now we face the future consequences
Nothing impending about it. It’s here. 30 to 40 million lost decent paying full-time employment, and either remain unemployed or are vastly underemployed, making 1/4 to 1/2 of what they used to make, with no benefits.
For millions, the government extension of UI benefits will take months. Many without any funds or UI since the end of November.
Even the brutal part-time fulfillment center work at Amazon is no longer available, and there is huge competition for any job (300 to 1000 or more applicants) that is not part-time minimum wage fast-food, retail or grocery store work. Instead of the easier cashiers and clerks, it’s all pretty brutal restock work or back line fast-food cook work
Aren’t the state governors responsible for the response to COVID?
No
i messed up and posted the wrong link
