Twitter’s stock price tumbled early Monday as investors appeared to balk at the social network’s decision to ban President Trump from posting.
Shares in the San Francisco-based company tumbled 7.5 percent to $47.60 as of 8:07 a.m. in the first premarket trading session after it booted Trump from the platform on Friday, saying his account posed a “risk of further incitement of violence” after his supporters stormed the US Capitol on Wednesday.
Twitter’s move against the outgoing president — whose account had more than 88 million followers — was the first permanent suspension for a head of state, and it’s likely to spark furious debate about the role tech companies play in regulating speech.
It may also hurt Twitter’s user base as Trump supporters and right-wing activists pledge to boycott the company’s blockbuster decision.
“Trump has a very high and loyal following and a lot of those eyeballs will go away if Trump is permanently restricted from posting,” Andrea Cicione, head of strategy at TS Lombard, told Reuters.
In a statement explaining its decision, Twitter said there were plans in the works on Twitter and elsewhere for more armed protests, “including a proposed secondary attack on the US Capitol and state capitol buildings on January 17, 2021.”
The use of social media to organize such violent uprisings could lead Twitter and other firms to ramp up their content moderation efforts — which could come with increased costs.
“Incremental moderation may be welcome but it’s not cheap and could benefit Facebook that already [employs] a moderation army [around six times] larger than Twitter’s workforce,” Bernstein analysts wrote in a research note.

I am hoping the stock closes at $45 today.

I quit Twitter when they censored Milo Yiannopoulos. They censored a gay conservative man who admitted to the world how boys are groomed.
Their chief problem, which I remember business analysts talking about this in 2014....no one clicks the business advertisements. They get noted in the public alot, but they mostly eat up every penny they make....paying ridiculous wages to the top twenty managers.
I thought back in 2015...they’d eventually get picked up by Google or Microsoft, and that was their way of surviving with a limited function.

Donald Trump does not even show up in the 10 ten of this list of users. Don’t know how Barak Obama has 110 million followers. That means over 50 million outside the US follows him even if he had 100% of the US user base.
Twitter is particularly popular in the US[2], and as of January 2020, the microblogging site had 59.35 million active users. Japan and the United Kingdom were ranked second and third with 45.75 and 16.7 million users respectively. Twitter’s user base represents only a fraction of the total social media users in 2020.

Twitter could always hire the experts at the NFL on how to deal with the damage control needed to make this look good.

I read posted Twitters, but have never used it myself.
Rasputin in on the right. People back then had enough common sense not to wear those silly nose rings.
We wish we could, however, our church is old age wise. We have a lot of older folks, 70s, 80s, even a couple of 90s that cannot attend because of other health issues and we have had a couple of C19 positives, so we have to put it on something and that is the one that most can get, so we have to go with them. Yes, I know there are other unfamiliar platforms, but these older folks (I’m one of them) can barely use a computer and sadly this is the one they can find and use. So, that is our problem.
