The Roman Senate accused Julius Caesar of fake crimes while he was capaigning in Gaul. They didn't like him because he was a populist that was too well liked by the people and hence had too much power for their liking. So they demanded he return to Rome for trial or be tried in absentia. If he returned he'd have to give up his army and his protected legal status (imperium) as a governor and surely convicted and either executed or banished. If he stayed he'd be called a traitor and banished. They thought they had him no matter what he did and that he'd just go hide somewhere and never be heard from again.
But Caesar, rather than meekly accepting that he was stuck, decided to return to Rome after all but in an unexpected twist bring his extremely devoted and loyal army with him. So he headed south and entered Roman territory with it by crossing the Rubicon river (the Northern boundary of Rome) saying 'The die is cast'. Civil war was on. The Senate fled, the people of Rome rejoiced and welcomed Caesar and he went on to hunt down the Senators and grandiosity forgive them and let them return to Rome as his permanent subordinates. And Caesar won.
And so fake trials and a 'can't lose' plan to destroy political rivals ended up ultimately destroying the Senate itself, along with the Republic of Rome and bringing in the Empire.
Don't know why but that's just been on my mind lately.

Think I’ll go back and “I Claudius” again. Refresh some of my history.

Exactly. If he contests the 25th amendment and the impeachment, his team can put on a defense that would include all the election fraud evidence and declassified documents.
