Governor Andrew Cuomo announced a proposal to prohibit utility disconnections in regions that are under a state of emergency as part of the 2021 State of the State. The Governor will propose legislation that will apply to electric, gas, water, telecommunications, cable and internet services. Utilities that fail to comply will be subject to penalties.

Awesome, free utilities for all in ny. Next folks can “buy” a house, not make payments, and live there their whole lives. We demand free gas, fuel oil, electricity water, internet, cable TV, phone, garbage removal too!

It will then be weaponized against us, with only those of favored status getting utilities, and those who do not submit are left to their own devices.
I think they tried this in Venezuela. That worked out well.

Landlords and now utilities. This is just forcing socialist welfare payments onto private entities.
Would that cover non-payment of state income taxes as well?
Free electricity.... Well, free if you don’t pay taxes. Somebody needs to pay the utilities and if the person who isn’t paying them gets them for nothing, then the government will obviously need to pony up and cover their non-payments. Meaning taxpayers will pay for these loafers.

Then why should anyone bother to pay?
What about a-hole governors that disconnect grandma and grandpa from the living?
