Our Constitution Demands Better Than This
Townhall.com ^ | January 9, 2021 | Congressman Ken Buck

Posted on 01/09/2021 5:39:51 AM PST by Kaslin

America is on edge this week. The harrowing scenes of our nation’s Capitol being attacked by rioters was an emotional and jarring experience for the American people. What we need right now is to come together, as we have been able to do during turbulent times in the past, as Americans, united in our commitment to the Constitution, and seeking national healing.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, however, misreads the situation. She is less interested in a moment of national healing than she is in scoring political points by satisfying her party’s far-left base with a new call for a second impeachment of President Donald Trump.

We are now a mere twelve days away from inaugurating President-elect Joe Biden. Presidential inaugurations in our nation have long been a symbol of our commitment as a free people to the peaceful transfer of power. “A miracle” is what President Ronald Reagan called this event, and it is a good reminder to us that in many places across the globe today, such an event would be impossible.

Impeachment is a grave remedy, not to be taken lightly, and certainly not to be undertaken as a rushed political stunt. An impeachment proceeding should occur only after careful deliberation of facts. The impeachment of last year was driven by political pressure from radical leftists, and this latest impeachment stunt by the Democrats is based again on whims and passions, rather than facts and evidence.

The Constitution calls for a peaceful transfer of power, and, regrettably, many of my Republican colleagues this week took part in an effort to undermine that peaceful transition by objecting to the electoral counting process. That effort was misguided from the start, and I have voiced my concerns about that attempt to undermine our Constitution and the Electoral College.

Now we see that the Democrats in Congress are responding in kind, with their own assault on the Constitution. Their repeated attempts to expel the president of the United States from office with flimsy allegations are an unconstitutional exercise that degrades the separation of powers, just as much as my Republican colleagues’ effort to jettison the Electoral College would have eroded federalism.

Undermining the Constitution has now become a bipartisan sport in Congress.

President Trump has exhibited poor behavior, both before and since the election. Most notably, his refusal to concede his loss in the election unnecessarily ratcheted up the rhetoric and antics on both sides of the political spectrum. Defending the Constitution should not be misconstrued as a defense of his actions.

Political leaders come and go, but our Constitution and our commitment to its principles should not be forfeited during this intensely partisan division within our country.

I join millions of Americans today in praying for our nation. We must ensure the peaceful transfer of power, once again.

An impeachment at this moment, less than two weeks before our new president will be sworn into office, is a disgrace to our Constitution, to the American people, and to the institutions we cherish.

So, this Congresscritter defended the stealing of the election.

It is not surprising he would work hard to make the people's anger illegitimate.

With friends like this, it is not surprising we lose critical battles.

Why isn't any Republican calling the Capitol entry "a legitimate expression of anger over a stolen election"?

had even just ONE court accepted the evidence of election fraud and had adjudicated whether or not it was sufficient as proof of fraud, this ALL might have been avoided. And yet ALL state courts, federal circuit courts and even SCOTUS have basically enjoined the American people to go self-fornicate at this point

Similar judicial “missteps” in the 1830’s-1850’s sowed the ground for the War Between the States.

Failure at the electoral, legislative and judicial levels is a nation in crisis.

The harrowing scenes of our nation’s Capitol being attacked by rioters

Sorry, not buying this line. Sure, if you watched the MSM coverage, that would be the takeaway. But I saw plenty of web footage of (dare I say it?) "peaceful protestors" that didn't make the nightly news.

So since when do I start believing the MSM?

I'm waiting for more facts to come out. Who ordered the Capitol police to take down the barriers and let them in. Who were the people doing the damage (and what was the damage compared, say, to courthouses and police stations and stores and restaurants, over last summer).

I don't mean to downplay the damage, injuries and, sadly, deaths. The perpetrators thereof should be prosecuted, and that has been rightly condemned.

But again, I'm not buying the level of hyperventilating all of a sudden.

The Congressman misunderstands the situation from the start. Leaving aside the murder of Ashli, he doesn’t seem to realize the events of Wednesday were really only “emotional and harrowing” for the cowards of Congress. We peons have been dealing with harrowing events for months with the pandemic, riots, enemedia, vote thievery and so much more. The “we are better than this” mantra always seems to point outward from the declaration. This is not a partisan problem. Our politicians on both sides need to straighten up and make the capitol a place worthy of being honored again.

Congressman Ken Buck, a traitor to the United States, said nothing when the democrats burned DC in May 2020 or when they took over th capitol during the Kavenaugh hearings.

Maybe Congressman Dipstick should watch some of the REAL VIDEO of the Capitol Police LEADING THEM INSIDE!

Now Contrast that with these from the Seditious and Violent insurrectionists that stormed the Senate to Disrupt Constitutional Government Functions

Add education and media establishments. All American institutions, except perhaps the police and military, have betrayed the people. As Yeats said:
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.

It is sickening that our freedom of speech is being taken: “I’m sick and tired of people who say that if you debate and disagree with this administration, somehow you’re not patriotic. We need to stand up and say we’re Americans, and we have the right to debate and disagree with any administration.”..... H.R. Clinton

There is nothing illegitimate about objecting to an election. There’s a procedure for it, and actually, in this case, it wouldn’t have even made a difference because there weren’t enough people lined up to object. It would have been mostly symbolic, although it might have laid the groundwork for a future investigation.

But it would have given people at least the feeling that their voices were being listened to and that somebody cared. Remember, all the other legal outlets had been closed to them.

Incidentally, I do wonder about the timing of the break-in on the back of the Capitol. Those people (in black) were over there first and they were the ones scaling the walls, breaking windows and getting into the chambers. Almost like they wanted to make sure that vote never happened, right?

Spare us the 'national healing' crap please. Nobody but nobody has any interest in 'national healing' or any other kind of healing. Not on the right and certainly not on the left. Anyone who thinks otherwise is just fooling themselves.

Yes, Pelosi will try to make political points on this. If the shoe was on the other foot McCarthy and McConnell would try to do the same.

In defense of the courts, let’s keep in mind that the U.S. Constitution and any state constitutions drafted by responsible people are written with clear limits on the power of one branch of government to encroach on another. This is why courts rarely get involved in determining elections in the legislative and executive branches, and why their involvement is almost always limited to cases involving questions about voting rights of individuals.

I lay all the blame for this fiasco squarely on the state legislatures that didn’t do their damn jobs.

LIB SPEAK

50 conservatives/patriots chanting USA in front of any LIB enclave is a riot.

6000 ANTIFA/BLM blocking traffic, attacking citizens, looting/sacking businesses and burning buildings is a ‘mostly peaceful demonstration which we must ‘listen to’ as we must hear what they have to say’.
