Shellshocked Republicans on Thursday said President Trump’s grip on the party is significantly weaker after he incited a mob to attack the Capitol, but some questioned whether their party would be free of his hold anytime soon.
The challenges to Trump are clearly mounting. There is chatter his Cabinet could invoke the 25th Amendment to remove him, an idea favored by at least one GOP lawmaker. Tensions between Trump and his long loyal vice president are clear, and there is evident anger in the Senate GOP with the president.
National Republicans interviewed by The Hill said Trump may have permanently alienated millions of center-right voters who were disgusted by Wednesday’s ugly scene.

Maybe. I would suggest that automation and productivity improvements have been the biggest factors in the reduction of employment in the U.S. steel industry.
At its peak in the 1950s, the Bethlehem Steel plant in Sparrows Point, Maryland employed something like 27,000 people and produced just over 600,000 tons of steel in its best year.
The largest steel mill in the U.S. today is the Calvert, Alabama facility operated as a joint venture between ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel. It employs about 1,600 people and has an annual production capacity in excess of 5.3 million tons.
The ugly scene was Republicans certifying a lie.
They worry about the party when then they should worry about the treason they have committed
Death to them all.
“The fear of a “MAGA” party is why they are trying to impeach President Trump with 12 days to go.”
The diaper-wearing slugs in the senate and house are scared sh*tless and for good reason. The idiot deep state, assigned to protect at least the front yard in DC, showed its incompetence by not securing the buildings where they pass illegal dictates. The stupid deep state didn’t even read intelligence reports of potential trouble coming to town.
A gang of armed Iranian slugs could easily take over the entire congress and hold them hostage. The deep state paper tiger has been revealed. And our foreign enemies have taken note.
Enjoy your circus, senate and house clowns.
Yours is quite thought provoking as well...it is good to see that many are working through the same thoughts and issues in their lives.
This past year was like crossing a barrier - entering a place of no return where the only issue really becomes survival, mostly on a personal level but also “group” level. Not group as in a nation, as that is no longer possible, but group similar to those in other societies in the past that became undesirable, culturally, ethnically or religiously to the rulers of the land.
I don’t think Trump, coming in to office, had a perfect understanding of the Government Class in Washington. I don’t think he grasped the depths of the depravity or oligarchical outlook in the Capitol. That’s probably surprising to us here - I’ve thought myself many times how he ever thought he could deal with these people. He thought politics drove them when in fact much, much darker forces were at play. These treacherous people have the blackest hearts any of us have ever witnessed...a bunch of Ted Bundy’s gone into politics. We saw that here for the most part, we’ve been paying attention for decades, his experiences were different and likely his successes in the past in other endeavors led him to believe he understood them. He didn’t. I don’t think he had any idea how the Government Class - the totality of it - viewed an outside entity with different goals treading on their turf. He was an existential threat in their eyes. He just wanted better decisions made for the people. There definitely was a lack of clarity on his part about who these people really are. I’m sure he understands very well today.
I’m removing myself from politics as well...I cancelled my registration to vote. There are no answers or solutions in politics or in the legal realm. We are not organized or prepared as yet to fight this in any other way, so getting small, and getting out are not bad short-term ideas.
But events will likely happen to change that. Realize that these people, in their arrogance and sense of absolute power, will make mistakes - almost constantly - these are not capable people, they are not understanding people. They are driven ideologues whose primary motivating impetus is hatred...for us. They will by their actions organize and focus us. They will leave us with little to lose...and that is very strong motivator. They will be very surprised at what happens when they attempt to ostracize those they haven’t purchased.

I have been a Republican since Reagan and we have a party with a great history but MY GOD! What kind of cowering, whimpering, pathetic animal do we have here? Get up off your fours and stand on two legs! Have some basic human pride and self-respect, you disgraceful cowards

CAN NOT BE REPEATED ENOUGH!
Another thought-provoking post!
I think it’s true that Trump didn’t realize the depth of the depravity in our government. I knew that many politicians were bad, but not this many, and not this bad. I thought surely the DOJ, not to mention Congress, would care about widespread election fraud or about Joe Biden being compromised by China. What a joke that was.
A friend who is on the Walkaway site says one former Democrat after another has expressed their disgust with the party they had turned to — the GOP.
The following article is somewhat uplifting in that it says 74 million disenfranchised voters could be quite a force for change as a new political party:
We may actually be compelled to get involved in politics as the Uniparty paints us as evil and ostracizes us from society and from our livelihoods and begins to siphon off more money from us.
You probably saw that Josh Hawley’s book has been canceled by his publisher. Terrence Williams said bookstores no longer want to carry his book. The people who were at the Capitol building are being doxed and fired — even those who didn’t go inside. I saw a video of Trump supporters in a hotel lobby, and it was accusingly pointed out that no one was wearing masks. Will they be scapegoated if there is an increase in Covid-19? Will conservative protests and rallies be looked upon as domestic terrorism?
People won’t just go off into a corner and die. As you said, the people in power may leave us with little to lose, which is a great motivator to action.
Twitter is already purging conservatives like General Mike Flynn and Sidney Powell — and even some Freepers! Scary!

74 million people need a new political party. The GOP is nothing more than Dhimmicrap-Lite, today.
What can I do? In the face of the coming storm, what constructive actions can we take to conserve what works and protect ourselves? Here are a few actionable solutions anyone can adopt at a personal or local level.
Find your tribe. Network, meet in person. Social media can’t censor what you say in private. This also helps you emotionally, since you’re meeting with people who support you instead of mistaking the digital lynch mobs for what matters.
Preserve conservative institutions like churches, schools and clubs. Fight social justice infiltration or pressure to submit to liberal political demands like, “you really need a BLM lecturer in here, you’ll be good if you throw up our political symbols”.
Educate. Teach your kids your values at an early age, by reading stories that share your values. Don’t let the kids go to drag queen story time or social justice story time. Protest if the school or daycare does this, or if you’re not able to do that, take your kid out and discuss the protest with other parents. Abilene Paradox – people wrongly think that the official dictate is what everyone agrees with because no one says anything against it.
Buy books that explain the conservative worldview and defend it like those by Dennis Prager. Buy books that explain why liberals and conservatives are different without demonizing them like Jonathan Haidt’s works. And start book clubs reading these books. Hello, tribe!
Fight any attempt to add social justice to codes of conduct. For example, the National Association of Realtors just implemented a policy where you can be fined or expelled for “hate speech”, public or private. Other organizations have weaker versions of this, but expect it to ramp up.
Law, medicine and social work already have rules regarding this, equating trust and respect and empathy to liberal values - so you can’t get licensed if you don’t agree. Fight this, if you don’t want to be kicked out of professional organizations if you don’t pass the liberal political litmus test.
Hire conservatives, because businesses are firing them. Assist those who have been fired for their beliefs.
2ndvote.com allows you to find conservative and neutral businesses that share your values.
You can even sort by category (restaurants, groceries, hardware, retail) or values (pro-life, 2nd amendment).
Do you like the local or national conservative talk show hosts? Buy the stuff they’re hawking, and especially use the reference or discount codes they provide. This will tell sponsors that this sponsorship is financially important to them. And that helps keep these shows on the air.
Clean your room. Sort yourself out. You can’t fix the world, but you can improve your own life and situation. Read Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University books. Get out of debt. Save up an emergency fund. If Biden’s cronies crash the economy, you’re in a much better situation. And you’re in a Christian group that can be the start of your tribe, or you can arrange classes at your church or with your networking groups to bring everyone closer together.
Encourage Sanctuary Cities/Sanctuary States on any issue you support. Second Amendment sanctuaries already exist. Pro-life Sanctuaries are far fewer but could spread. Support the groups that got these policies passed, and encourage such movements in your area. You may not be able to change federal tax and immigration policy, but you can try to preserve free speech if someone can implement a First Amendment Sanctuary law at a state level.
Use the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE) college rankings on free speech to determine the least liberal schools in your area to send your kids to.
