BRADENTON, Fla. - Gov. Ron DeSantis spoke about COVID vaccinations in Manatee County on Thursday but opened his news conference talking about Wednesday's violent pro-Trump protests in Washington.

Protesters stormed the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday and forced lawmakers into hiding in an attempt to overturn the results of the election.

DeSantis said he "100 percent" supports the right to protest but said "the minute that crosses over, there needs to be penalties."

He called the actions of protesters "totally unacceptable."

"Those folks need to be held accountable," he said. "It doesn't matter what banner you're flying under, the violence is wrong, the rioting and disorder is wrong. and we're not going to tolerate it in Florida."

U.S. Capitol Police said that 14 arrests were made, with three of those arrested from Florida.

"You can have strong views, you can be disappointed in the election, you can be disappointed in whatever," DeSantis said. "But you can't just go in and ransack public places like that."

You can listen to his full statement on the D.C. violence in the tweet below. We'll update this story as we get more information.

Before speaking about vaccines, ⁦@GovRonDeSantis⁩ addressed yesterday’s events in #WashingtonDC. He said behavior like that will not be tolerated here in Florida. ⁦@BN9⁩ his full answer -> pic.twitter.com/piYYMXGapp — Angie Angers (@angie_angers) January 7, 2021

What was he supposed to say? The editorialized anti Trump spin from the media aside, he simply condemned the violence. He did not blame Trump. But I would have liked him to acknowledge the, at least probable, fraud that no one has been able to audit. What happened to transparent elections?

...DeSantis said he “100 percent” supports the right to protest....

Obvious blatant lie. The protesters were a.lowed in. They didn’t cross any line. Antifa and blm are the only ones that crossed any lines

It seems like they are using this to ignore the vote fraud issue.

Cowards. What a cover up.

Cowardice is so ugly. These people are more afraid of losing their dirty careers than losing the truth.

What would happen if the transition of power went to the Military via Martial Law declaration due to these unruly barbarians being reported about? Can Congress or Joe undo it or would it be up to the military?

Yep, expected from the Dems, but the GOP is pathetic, underserving of being elected.

That’s a pretty generic condemnation of violence. Something the left has yet to do regarding antifa and blm.

He’s just proving that the Republican Party, and ALL of its office holders are the walking dead.

They’ll never get another term.

“But you can’t just go in and ransack public places like that.”

Frankly, DeSantis, if Washington D.C. were nuked into oblivion, the country would be much better off. How’s that for “ransacking public places”?

It was staged by antifa to provide justification for the forthcoming repressive legislation that the democrats are going to pass beginning in late January.

Well, he doesn’t spend a whole lot of time condemning Washington who was quite violent when it came to freedom. Generally agree, stay away from violence but when you make peaceful revolution impossible you make violent revolution inevitable (to paraphrase MLk).

Exactly.

DeSantis was at the top of my list for 2024. Now I’m not so sure.

That’s true - but as you say - Monday morning quarterbacking is easy.

And they were going to set up the Trump protesters regardless of how well behaved they had been. They could have been perfect and would still have gotten framed by the fake news and the Democrats.

I say, SHAME on the Republicans who

1) know perfectly well that Antifa runs false flag operations whenever there is a pro Trump protest.

2) know perfectly well this violence was NOTHING compared to the “peaceful protests“ of BLM. Where were the burning buildings? Where were the burning cars? Where was the looting?

3) purposely blew this out of proportion and used it as an excuse to rubber stamp a stolen election.

So we have no voice through voting. We have no voice through protesting? We have no voice in social media. Protesters were locked into their hotels, unable to leave. What now?
