McConnell's efforts to block $2,000 stimulus checks hurt the GOP in Georgia — and may have cost it the Senate

The Democrats Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock early Wednesday were projected to win both US Senate seats in Georgia, handing overall government control to the Democratic Party.

One of the pivotal issues in the Georgia campaigns was the prospect of $2,000 COVID-19 stimulus checks, which Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell blocked.

Even though both GOP candidates in Georgia backed $2,000 checks, the party was divided. This allowed Democrats to campaign effectively as the party of $2,000 checks and could've helped them carry the day.

It’s owned by Axel Springer.

Nuff said, eh?

Probably so, but McConnell did not want Trump messing with his family’s China shipping business, which would have clearly happened.

All, A-L-L of the DC bureaucracy wanted the disrupter gone. DjT had no chance, thus the big cheat.

Axel Springer owns BI.

That explains everything.

“If the voters will sell America out for a mere $2000, then America is ready on her death bed.”

They will, she is.

I think a lot of people feel helpless, for a lot of different reasons, but it all focuses on our dysfunctional, corrupt government. If I try to put myself in the position of someone who is scraping to get by:

I’d figure, to heck with it, I’ll vote for whoever gives me the most. I wouldn’t worry about things coming apart, because for me, things have already come apart.

The fact that Biden, Harris, Warnock, AOC, etc could even make it through the primaries will tell you that the nation has sunk too far to recover. The only question is, “What ewill replace it?”

It’s not just the $2,000. It’s more the excessive funding for foreign interests and Democratic interests combined with blocking more money for us. McConnell is either complicit or clueless.

Folks, if there were enough people willing to sell out our republic for a couple of grand, Deep State wouldn’t need to steal elections.

“ If the voters will sell America out for a mere $2000,”

My family could use the $2 k stimulus because we’ve been hurt financially by the covid fallout. I can image people in GA who are apolitical and who’ve been hurt more than we have, voting for the $2k. Hearing multimillionaire Mitch call it “socialism” isn’t going to persuade anybody who is in tough financial straights - especially if they know how much Congress sends to foreign countries and spends on foreign wars.

Close enough margins any one small thing could have swung it. Lin Wood’s calls to boycott with the national media trumpeting those comments in an effort to depress GOP turnout also probably had an impact. Probably didn’t effect 95%+ of the GOP voters...but it only takes a very small handful to swing a close election.

The President should have insisted on the $2k checks if it was that important to him at the start of the negotiations, not after the bill was already passed...even coordinated with the GOP candidates to take the lead on insisting on that...instead, it was co-opted by the Democrat candidates as their issue.

Disagree. The Deep State was not going to allow the Dems to lose the GA senate races, no matter the dynamics. They had everything in place to ensure "victory." Pinning the blame on the $2000 stimulus checks is simply disinformation put out there by the Deep State.

“ That’s one heck of a campaign strategy. Expect to see this again.”

All he was doing is saying, in effect, “Get Mitch out of the way and the Dems will pass the $2k that Trump is calling for but Mitch is blocking”. It was Mitch’s “strategy” that gave Biden this opening.
