“If the VP had that power, Biden would have chosen Hillary in 2017.”
Gore in 2001?
By taking the oath to protect and defend the Constitution, VP and lawmakers are obligated to guarantee voting integrity under Article IV, Section 4 imo.
"Article IV, Section 4: The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government [emphasis added], and shall protect each of them against Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence."
Amen.
and AWomen!!! LOL!!!
Well, either you’re right or Trump is!
“a-women” Oh gosh! 🤦🏻♀️
That is supposed to be a core of conservatism, the supremacy of the state over that of the federal government.
Mike Pence will not be the VP forever, and the power that many here seem to believe he wields as VP would be truly frightening in the hands of an Al Gore in00, or a Joe Biden in16.
Some seem to have forgotten that.
If there was a deluge of fake and illegal slates of electors showing up, are you saying that Pence would not have the power to sort them all out?
Even if he doesn’t he should definitely do it. Let them go through the courts.
It’s hard enough to believe that Senators will be trying to challenge electors, but Pense?!?!
I could be wrong, and perhaps this is exactly what (Trump thinks) Pense is going to (try to) do, but I really just have a feeling that this tweet is more like one chess move, and not a clear signalling of intent in a vacuum.
chuckle.
and i hope his godly wife is giving him an earful.
Pence's role in the process is defined by the Constitution and by law. He presides over the count. He has no power to accept or reject electors or to challenge slates of electors, only Congress can do that. His role is purely ceremonial.
Yes, some sane people are trying to get this point across to the “Pence will save us!” crowd.
The idea that so much power would be vested in a single office of the federal government is about as un-conservative a notion that one can imagine.
> The Vice President has the power to reject fraudulently chosen electors. <
Well, yes. But then the rejected votes go to Congress for a final determination. It’s not like the VP can just tear up those votes and throw them away.
Gore and Hillary conceded. Has nothing to do with what’s going on now.
I heard Pence won’t be there. Grassley, President pro-Tempore of the Senate will preside
If the vice president has the constitutional authority to reject state electors (for whatever reason), then you can pretty much forget about meaningful presidential elections from here on out.
Where do you hear this from?
