he U.S. Army’s Pacific theater strategy has long maintained that it does not plan to consider a land war against China for a number of key reasons.
First and foremost, perhaps most obviously, deployment would be a problem. How could any kind of mechanized land force, with the requisite expeditionary capability, mobilize for some kind of large-scale land assault on the Asian continent. Where would there be a staging area? Possibly India, a major U.S. ally, could offer some kind of option. Abrams tanks, for example, need to be shipped, deployed, and prepared, as do larger infantry carriers, howitzers, and other weapons systems. For this reason, the U.S. Army has based its approach on the prospect of joint-attack options with force concentrations possibly launched from Japan, Australia, allied island areas south of China, such as the Philippines or South China Sea area.
Furthermore, China is known to possess a large mechanized force along with as many as one million ground soldiers, a scenario that clearly presents a threat like no other in the world. Then there is the issue of China’s rugged, mountainous terrain, making it almost impossible for larger mechanized forces to advance.

Why is anyone even discussing such insanity.

Sell Taiwan a fully armed Ohio Class sub and station it somewhere far from the strait.
Yep. Never let a good movie quote go to waste, even if it’s kinda beside the point!
Find the person person who first even thought of this and slap him.
[Size does matter, and it matters a LOT.]
Some of the battles in the Chinese Civil War had more than a million troops on each side. Mostly light infantry & militia types. But Chang had an air force and some partially mechanized divisions.
Kinetic war with China is stupid unless there is an attack.
The “war” is best waged on the China economy. As the CCP continues to react against the Chicaps that are the economic backbone of the current prosperity, internal dissent will tear the country apart.
If Alibaba is killed, China will die as a result
Newbie stupidity on display
Nuc weapons will never again be used in anger.
Why the hell would we want to invade China in the first place???
Our Trident submarines could take out China in minutes. If there is a ground war with them there will be no need for troops on the ground. There will be a great war with China when they and Russia invade Israel, unless by then we will have totally given our country over to the them by the Democrats and Republicans, in that case we will be made impotent or actually be a part of the effort against Israel. We should have hit China years ago.
The war with China has already begun and the front is right here, in Washington DC and the state capitals throughout this country. Any notions of deploying our forces to China while our own country collapses all around us is absolutely insane.
Lichtenstein could never have held off Germany whatever their intentions and using that as an argument is ridiculous.
As far as Korea goes, had we the WILL to fight that war to win it instead of treating it as a holding action we could have easily won it in a short period of time. For you to believe N Korea was more formidable than Germany or Japan is quite astounding.
I didn’t make up the figures I posted, they are the accepted way to calculate REAL GDP.
Dude! You beat me to it!
China’s economy is not bigger in the aggregate either. The U.S. is about $21 trillion while China is around $15.
Never get involved in a land war in Asia...

Close enough (if even the case anymore), if they choose to outspend us militarily, which was my initial point. No way this country could hold together to match, much less exceed, the Chinese.
Let’s hope they decide to be nice to us!
