If I remember correctly, Westphal was a golfing buddy of Rush Limbaugh.

He was coach of the Charles Barkley/Kevin Johnson Phoenix Suns teams of the ‘90s. If not for Jordan they would have won a championship or two.

Celtics traded him for Charlie Scott - I don’t think Red realized what a great player he would become. He was fun to watch, and a real class act.

Great player. RIP.
To this day, the greatest Basketball Game I have ever seen was Game 5 of the 1976 Finals between Boston and Phoenix, that went 3 overimes.

His parents were upper class, but he’d go down to the courts at the beach in high school and dominate the other players with his skill, including dunking on everyone.
He was a great athlete.

His Suns team lost to the Celtics in 1976 finals. Funny, he would have fit right in with the Celtics. Great ball player with skill in both hands. Was at his best with the Suns.

So sad and so young. His mom was a regular attender of our small church in Manhattan Beach and he would come occasionally when he wasn’t busy playing for USC.
