It’s not like they’re not getting sick on Mexico. Although I have to wonder if they have access to HCQ there.

I would hope so. Not sure it’s superior to other things at
this point though. I still think it is helpful.

I would hope they have a good strategy down there. I don’t
wish harm on the people of Mexico.

My second wife’s family was from Mexico. I really like that
family. Her grandmother and I connected, and I really loved
her. She died a short while after our separation, and I was
very sad that I wasn’t able to attend her funeral.

She lived to be in her 90s, and she drove into her 90s. She
always had a great smile, and it was just nice to be around
her.

“You think being a “hard worker” bestows the right to sneak into the U.S. and live here?”

I would pick them any day over the sloths that were born here.

You have this simple minded idea of what citizenship means. For you just having the good luck of being born here gives you all sort of rights including the right to spit on America or vote for laws that allow you to live off of other people’s labor. In your view, there’s no obligations to be a citizen, only the granting of “rights”.

Wnen the constitution was written only men who had some property had the right to vote. There was no public welfare, only private charities. Extending the vote to everyone simply for being born here, has redefined the concept of citizenship to such an extent that it’s hardly recognizable. There are no obligations only rights. And that’s why we are where we are.

As Tocqueville pointed out...

“The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public’s money.”

That’s where we are.

And I’d say you have an ignorant view of what being a citizen means. Among other things, it means that you have a right to be here, regardless of being lazy or having a whole host of other bad traits. Sneaking into the country means you DON’T have a right to be here, regardless of how many good traits you have. It has nothing, zero, zilch, nada, to do with who YOU like or dislike.

And that’s fine. We should want a prosperous Mexico, and if some of those productive people can move back to Mexico and help improve life there, then that’s a good thing.

[i am just observing that several of my california gringo friends, former work colleagues and acquaintances have chosen to retire to Mexico, either part time or full time. apparently the lack of ability to own land is offset by the nice climate and the relatively high standard of living that one can achieve there on a relatively modest retirement income. at times, i am tempted myself.]

US citizens living in Mexico number 900K in total. That’s not a small number.

[When I was 16, I had a close encounter in Paramount. My buddy and I were riding back home on my motorcycle down Rosecrans when a low rider full of Mexicans cut us off. Being stupid, I flipped them off.]

For all you know, they could have been members of some drug gang. Or sicarios on the run from Federales south of the border. The thing about random motorists is you don’t know who they are. And sometimes, finding out is not a pleasant experience.

Having said that, I would give up everything I own to be young and foolish once again. More and more, I’m coming round to the old observation that youth is wasted on the young.
