Alternatively, they might come to the White House to announce, but that would be a stick in the eye to a Biden Administration. Another possibility is to delay the announcement until a week after inauguration, so the Bidens (Joe and Hunter) can receive the Nobel Peace Prize for it.
Another bug out trip was bad optics for Pence. People were starting to notice how often he has been AWOL when POTUS needs him most.
I doubt that was more than a minor irritation to President Trump.Israel must get along with the US regardless of who is president.
Otherwise they are doomed.
The trip may have been cancelled by the president because Pence is being uncooperative over his January 6th duties.
That is a very big deal.

He has a duty to his Country to make the best of the vital US alliance, regardless of his personal feelings.
Having to have made life and death Military decisions, and having to have consoled the families of those lost, might have steeled him to buck up and do what needs to be done for the Country.

Despite all the stuff Trump has done for Israel, my bet is that Netanyahu and others don’t support Trump because he has made America energy independent which lessens our attachment to the Middle East as a whole. I’m sure he would like to see Biden make us dependent on Saudi oil again.

The most likely reason, the dissolution of the Knesset last week requiring a new election, 4th in a year, in late March. Official visits can be viewed politically as interference.
