BBC: Jesus was 'Palestinian,' despite term's use century after crucifixion
JERUSALEM POST ^ | ECEMBER 28, 2020

References to Jesus as "Palestinian" were also made on the December 13th edition of BBC Radio Scotland’s ‘Sunday Morning,’ without any explicit mention of Jesus' Jewish identity.

The BBC World Service radio program Heart and Soul aired a program titled "Black Jesus" on December 18, in which presenter Robert Beckford claimed that Jesus was a "Palestinian," despite the term only coming into use some 100 years after the crucifixion.

Throughout the program, Beckford noted accurately that artistic depictions of Jesus as blonde and European are historically inaccurate. But when discussing his national identity, the presenter referred to Jesus numerous times as a "first-century Palestinian Jew," whereby the term "Palestinian" only came into common use 100 years after his death following the Bar Kokhba Revolt against the Roman Empire.

The Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting in America (CAMERA) highlighted the inaccuracy in a report earlier this year criticizing The New York Times, noting that, “during the time of Jesus, Bethlehem and Jerusalem were in what was commonly called Judea and Nazareth [which were] in what was commonly called the Galilee. The land where Jesus lived did not take on the name Palestine until the second century, well after his death. Thus, the notion of “first-century Palestine”… is totally fictional.

"In 132 CE, approximately 100 years after the crucifixion of Jesus, the Jews fought against Roman rule for a second time in what is known as the Bar Kokhba Revolt," the report continued. "After the Romans defeated the rebellious Jews in 135, they renamed the land of the Jews Palestina to punish the Jews and to make an example of them to other peoples considering rebellion. The Romans took away the Jewish name, Judea, and replaced it with the name of an ancient enemy the Jews despised. The Philistines were an extinct Aegean people whom the Jews had historically loathed as uncultured and barbaric.”

References to Jesus as "Palestinian" were also made on the December 13th edition of BBC Radio Scotland’s Sunday Morning, without any explicit mention of Jesus' Jewish identity, according to CAMERA. The organization said it intends to ask the BBC to clarify the historical inaccuracies with a formal request.

No. Just way the heck no. I make no claims about an etomologist, maybe not the insect thing, but black Berbers have been doing their thing literally for thousands of years south of the Great Atlas, and I actually am Welsh with blue eyes and black hair, and we have very different things going on linguistically. Ya really can’t mistake the two as similar, beyond being fellow humans.

I really can’t confuse a Palestinian Jew with some white guy from British stock.

Jesus was not a Palestinian. He was likely however NOT a lilly white, blue eyed European.

This all gets confusing, because people arrive places at different times and then move around.

Berbers are definitely white, and as you say, have been in North Africa a very long time. You can look at even modern-day Berbers, and they clearly have sharp features and tan, not black skin. I no longer see contentions that they were connected to Celts, as I did only a few years ago. Depending on whom you read, Celts' read lock on the British Iales is less than a couple of thousand years old. It looks as if they arrived there from Western Asia and then the Danube and the Alps.

Since the sun lightens one’s hair, if Jesus had brown hair, he could have blonde highlights.

[But, we ALL killed Jesus (as I’m fond of saying). He was Crucified for OUR sins; for OUR transgressionS.]

sigh

I've have heard it said a slightly different way.

The most beautiful of all creation (Satan) fell because of pride, and sought the fall of man as a hostage, thinking that God would surely not let man fall.

But Jesus said to the Father if you'll forgive them, I'll take there place.(die in there place)

And the Father said if you'll die for them, I'll forgive them.

So the Father being of pure justice, kept His word, letting a Kinsman Redeemer stand for us.

Jesus is the English translation of a Greek translation. The real name is Yeshua.

This is abject heresy. According to the Christian Bible, Jesus was an Israelite Jew of the tribe of Judah. This Jew and Judahite was born and died in Roman-occupied Israel or as the Romans called it, Iudea.
Catholic crosses will often have the acronym "INRI" on them. This stands for Iēsus Nazarēnus, Rēx Iūdaeōrum, or Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews.

The Sanhedrin and most of the Pharisees, yes. There were certainly many in the streets, who a week after chanting "Hosanna!" were then calling for His Crucifixion, only a week later.

Even according to the canons of the Roman Churches (RCC and Eastern Orthodox), the Romans killed Jesus. He was beaten and crucified by Romans. Romans crucified, not Jews. He was one of over a dozen Messianic claimants killed by the Romans. Jews weren't even allowed to carry out the death penalty under Roman rule. And the Sanhedrin had been controlled by Rome and its collaborators ever since the Nabbatean-Edomite half breed Herod the Great slew most of the Sanhedrin for refusing to accept him as king.

I would agree in general. It was eventually a Rome decision but was handed back.

Luke 23:11-16 English Standard Version

11 And Herod with his soldiers treated him with contempt and mocked him. Then, arraying him in splendid clothing, he sent him back to Pilate. 12 And Herod and Pilate became friends with each other that very day, for before this they had been at enmity with each other.

13 Pilate then called together the chief priests and the rulers and the people, 14 and said to them, “You brought me this man as one who was misleading the people. And after examining him before you, behold, I did not find this man guilty of any of your charges against him. 15 Neither did Herod, for he sent him back to us. Look, nothing deserving death has been done by him. 16 I will therefore punish and release him.”

Matthew 27:24-26 English Standard Version

Pilate Delivers Jesus to Be Crucified

24 So when Pilate saw that he was gaining nothing, but rather that a riot was beginning, he took water and washed his hands before the crowd, saying, “I am innocent of this man’s blood;[a] see to it yourselves.” 25 And all the people answered, “His blood be on us and on our children!” 26 Then he released for them Barabbas, and having scourged[b] Jesus, delivered him to be crucified.

Kinda surprised me that even Mick Jagger noted Pilate washed his hands and (thereby) sealed his (own) fate.

If Jagger wrote that song. I haven’t looked.

“Sympathy for the Devil” is a song by English rock band the Rolling Stones, written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. It is the opening track on their 1968 album Beggars Banquet.

Pilate didn't meed Herod. He met Antipas (Herod Antipas), son of Herod the Great. This was shorthand and known to the early Christians, but something missed by later Christians, especially those who didn't come from Jewish communities. Another thing so evident to these Jewish Christians as not to need to be mentioned is that the Tetrarch Herod Antipas and the other "Jewish" Officials were Roman collaborators, chosen by the Romans or other collaborators.
This would have been like the Nazi governor of the Netherlands arguing with Dutch Collaborators over whether a prisoner were dangerous and should be killed, but accepting the position of the collaborators and killing the prisoner. If someone said every Dutch person in the room were guilty and this guilt would affect their children, everyone would understand that it relates only to the collaborators. The Dutch people would in no be way guilty. Jewish Christians, who wrote the Christian Bible, understood this. Later Christians lacked this context.

Partner, there were no Palestinians in present day Israel when Jesus Christ was born.

You must not be a Christian that never has read the Bible.

Glad you were able to watch it.

I watched “Jerusalem Countdown” - cheesy in a few spots but interesting.

Especially the ending. In light of our current day. /cough

No spoilers though. Have to watch the whole movie to see how it goes.
