I was stationed at Tempelhof 1966-1969 and know the whole bit. An incredible part of history that most don’t have a clue about.

I was there in 1982, in the RADAR air traffic control room, watching aircraft fly to and from Berlin, in one of three corridors. The corridors were crowded with aircraft and they had to use altitude separation, to keep them apart.
Most of the air traffic was going to Tegel, but USAF controllers actually controlled all the traffic, to and from Berlin.
