Announcement follows health ministry’s approval of vaccine use by elderly people

--

The Russian president, Vladimir Putin, will receive the Sputnik V vaccine against coronavirus, the Kremlin spokesman told state TV channel Rossiya 1.

“He said he will be vaccinated, he made this decision and was waiting until all formalities are completed,” said Dmitry Peskov.

The country launched a voluntary vaccination programme with the Russia-made vaccine earlier in December, starting with the most vulnerable groups in Moscow.

People over the age of 60 may begin to apply for shots on Monday, Moscow’s mayor, Sergei Sobyanin, said on his website on Sunday, a day after the Russian health ministry said the vaccine was approved for use by elderly people following a separate trial.

“Approval of vaccine use by elderly people”?

They have old people giving shots?

“He put the needle in my nose!”

Is this a traditional dead-vaccine? Or mRNA approach like Moderna.

And I’m sure that his injection will be just as real as most of the other politicians televised ‘injections’.

I don’t know for sure, though this I just got from Wikipedia:

“Moreover, as the Sputnik antigen is delivered via a different modality, namely using a disabled Adenovirus rather than formulated RNA, this provides flexibility in terms of perhaps one or other method providing better responses in certain age groups, ethnicities, etc., plus the storage of this vaccine ought to be more straightforward.[44]”

Which seems to indicate the first-choice.

And no, to those suggesting he had one already, nope.

There were other prominent Russians, but not Putin.

As my old, long dead aunt used to say, “If you believe everything you hear, you’ll eat everything you see.”

Needed: an objective, politically neutral study of which vaccine works best.

Good luck with that.

People are getting vaccinated around the world. Many versions of vaccine.

I think this disease will shortly go away.

Myself, anyway.

Vietnam is even approaching the release of a domestically-developed vaccine.

Just a few more months.

It works. I’d rather take the Russian vaccine.
