Do you think Pence is that much of a fighter? Backbone has never been his strong suit and it sounds like he does not want to do it.

Does Pence have the backbone ?

Too soon to tell. If Rudy & Sidney make the case, with a little help from some of the courts, and facts on his side, Pence’s obligation to freedom and the constitution which he does hold dearly will do battle with his establishment tendencies.

Strength of evidence is the deciding factor, imho.

ABC —just this moment here in the west—is warning that a VP has no real role other than a “reader of EVs as cast.”

History says otherwise. Jefferson—as VP— “voted” himself Pres with his creative reading of the EVs. And in today’s case, conflicting slates of electors will be submitted from several states which brings it back to strength of evidence.

The magnitude of this is unlike anything we’ve ever seen.

I referenced Jefferson's role as VP and "reader of EVs" earlier:

(author) Macris points out that in 1800, even with constitutional deficiencies in Georgia, Thomas Jefferson blithely counted defective electoral votes from Georgia, effectively voting himself into the presidency. This demonstrates that the president of the Senate is the final authority on any motions or objections during the vote-counting. There is no appeal. That doesn't mean there won't be any outrage. Whatever Pence does, people will be angry. But what does the law demand?

if evidence is shown that fraud was perpetrated—as we know it was—to accept fraudulent votes is as bad as voting fraudulently.

Pence wouldn’t need to choose R electors over D electors, but rather toss them all. ......thereby reducing the EV vote to DjT 232 to Biden 222 +/-.

Pence would be reviled forever, but at the same time hailed the saviour of the country by more than half of us.
