Bush was one of the highest performing Republican statewide candidates that year, earning more votes than Paxton and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick.
His tenure at the General Land Office has been rocky, most notably facing criticism over his handling of the Alamo historic site. At the 2018 Texas Republican Convention, the delegates booed Bush and cried out "Remember the Alamo!" as he took the stage.
