Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush is weighing a bid for attorney general, as the Republican currently in the job, Ken Paxton, faces new criminal accusations.
Several campaign donors have asked Bush to consider running in 2022, senior political adviser Ash Wright said. The Republican has not made a decision.
"Commissioner Bush has always said he will 'keep all options open' and that remains his policy," Wright said in a statement. "Like many conservative leaders around the state, he is very concerned about these allegations regarding Paxton."
Bush's intentions were first reported on the conservative website Texas Scorecard.
If he does jump in, Bush will face a fight. Paxton is "absolutely planning on running again, is looking forward to winning a third term, and is never going to stop fighting for the people of Texas," his campaign spokesman, Ian Prior, said Monday.

Bush, the grandson of former President George H.W. Bush and son of former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, is the only member of the dynasty currently in elected office.
He won his first term as land commissioner in 2014 and was reelected in 2018, after beating back a challenge from a fellow Republican. Bush was one of the highest performing Republican statewide candidates that year, earning more votes than Paxton and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick.
As a statewide official, Bush has been outspoken in condemning hateful or racist rhetoric within the GOP.
His tenure at the General Land Office has been rocky, most notably facing criticism over his handling of the Alamo historic site. At the 2018 Texas Republican Convention, the delegates booed Bush and cried out "Remember the Alamo!" as he took the stage.

SORRY
No.. No.. and Hell No!!
No.. No.. and Hell No!!
Second, Third ... ad infinitum.
What a moron. He spent his first year in office following around daddy’s campaign so much he didn’t know where his Land Office was. Cashed his paychecks though. He’s not received one vote from this household and never will.
Bush Family is absolute scum. Never again for any office ever. Despise the whole lot of them, especially 43.
damn right! donald trump jr in 2024!
No Bushie
Nooooo Bushie.
CC
Not for attorney general, not for state rep, not for comptroller, not for traffic court judge, not for sheriff. Not now, not ever.
Paxton is a decent man and the Bushes, well, they have spoken for themselves.
Texas refused the Dominion voting system. Texas requires photo ID at the polls and Paxton aggressively fights the Dems on mail-in ballots. Only disabled seniors qualify for mail-in, and they must request an application.
"Pee" became Land Commissioner because of straight-ticket voting, which Texas recently got rid of.
You are closer to the truth than most conservatives will admit. I keep hoping against hope for divine intervention for the reinstatement of justice in our nation. I am convinced that everlasting and eternal justice will come “soon and very soon” when our Lord fullfills the promise of His return for His bride. Oh what a glorius day that will be!
The “little brown one” (per his grandfather’s remarks) can go pound sand. Texans better wake up to the dangers on name-recognition voting.
How funny.
Anybody that supports any Bush is a sheep by definition.
Cornyn and Bushworld are working hard and methodical to take out Paxton prior to 2022 primary. Even Barr put out another FBI hit on Paxton a couple weeks ago.
If the Cornyn-Bush Mafia and the rest of the Deep State are successful in taking out Paxton before 2022 primary, “Pee” will win.
I’m sure George P. Bush has done an excellent job as Land Commissioner, and should continue in that office.
Someone needs to ask George P. how he got into the University of Texas Law School with a 2.79 GPA undergraduate at Rice.
Affirmative action?
That's how the Bushes roll. GWB was a decently conservative Texas governor. Then he went to DC and the mask came off.
Stay out da Bushes ! No mas !
